SUMMARY:Yen Ha & Anna Rubin Present "A Storm Event"
DESCRIPTION:A Storm Event\nVisual artist YEN HA and musical composer ANNA RUBIN will present a multi-media installation titled A Storm Event\, centered on a series of twelve large works on paper by Yen Ha that are intended to surround the viewers in the form of a continual landscape. The works on paper are extremely detailed and have each been composed from countless short\, individual strokes that\, during the process\, form fluctuating patterns. For this exhibition\, the artist attaches her finished drawings directly to the wall\, without a frame\, so that the viewer feels more directly affected by their physical presence. \nThe exhibition will be infused with the sound of Anna Rubin’s computer generated composition\, composed especially for the occasion\, which incorporates field recordings\, synthesized sounds\, and the artist reading her own poem\, A Storm Event\, in English\, French and Vietnamese. With her installation’s fusion of the visual\, the musical and the linguistic\, Yen Ha is creating an experience for the viewer that doesn’t just appeal to multiple senses at once\, but multiple linguistic forms as well. \nIn Yen Ha’s own words\, “The exhibition surrounds the viewer both visually and aurally in marks that appear to move on the page while sounds weave through the space. The combination of activated senses deepens the connection to the natural experience of a storm\, reminding visitors of the ferocious energy of nature.” The references to nature that abound in A Storm Event has special resonance In the intimate scale of the historic Courthouse Gallery\, with its vintage fireplace and picturesque views of Lake George. \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Artist\nBorn in Saigon\, Yen Ha is an artist and writer who lives in New York City\, where she co-founded the architecture firm\, Front Studio. Ha’s work is supported by fellowships from the Hambidge Center\, Monson Arts and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. Her LGAP exhibition will be the second iteration of A Storm Event\, which was first presented last year at Artspace in Richmond\, VA. \nAnna Rubin’s music is propelled by her love of the speaking and singing voice as well as environmental and political issues. She has composed for a variety of musical genres including chamber\, choral\, wind and orchestral ensembles. She also incorporates spoken word into electronic sound collages. Her electronic music has accompanied stage\, video and dance. \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Reception: Saturday\, August 22nd\, 4pm – 6pm\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Courthouse Gallery\n1 Lower Amherst Street\nLake George\, NY 12845\n518-668-2616\nHours: \nWednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PM\nSaturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THANK YOU!\n \n \n \n \n \n Throughout the year\, we offer 17 exhibitions of work by emerging and established artists in our Courthouse Gallery and in partner locations throughout\nLake George. \nWe are able to do this because of the support of our sponsors and LGAP members.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This program is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
