SUMMARY:Ria Curley\, Chuck Lamb & The Curley Lamb Nu-Soul-Jaz Quartet @ The Caldwell-Lake George Library
DESCRIPTION:Ria Curley\, Chuck Lamb & The Curley Lamb Nu-Soul-Jaz Quartet\nSinger/songwriter Ria Curley (melodic\, vocal R&B/Pop/Rock) and pianist/composer Chuck Lamb (instrumental Jazz/Fusion) are music and life partners (husband and wife)\, who compose and perform music\, both individually and together — the latter\, with usual bandmates Brad Monkell (bass) and Sam Zucchini (drums)\, as “The Curley Lamb Nu-Soul-Jaz Quartet.” \nRia Curley is an accomplished singer/songwriter/composer (music and lyrics)\, known for her silky voice\, groove-oriented R&B originals and “nu-jazz” standards. Ria is honored to have 22 of her original songs signed to publishing giant\, Warner/Chappell Music Int’l. \nChuck Lamb has been the pianist for the Brubeck Brothers Quartet for more than two decades and has composed for and played with the Quartet all over the world\, including Lincoln Center; the Newport\, Detroit\, Monterrey\, Bern and Saratoga Jazz Festivals; the Blue Note in Tokyo; Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow; Singapore with the Chinese National Orchestra; and more. When Chuck is not on tour with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet\, he performs regularly with his own ensembles\, including monthly as Jazz Artist-in-Residence for the highly acclaimed “Jazz at Caffe Lena” music series\, which Chuck cofounded in 2017 with producer extraordinaire\, Joel Moss\, in Saratoga Springs\, NY. \nTogether\, Ria and Chuck recently entered the world of television and film music and obtained a prime placement for one of their original songs in the opening monologue of the HBO MAX standup comedy special\, “Everything Must Go\,” starring Emmy-nominated Hannah Einbinder (of the Emmy-winning HBO MAX series\, “Hacks”). The couple also obtained three original song placements in the acclaimed documentary film\, “Exergue on documenta 14\,” which premiered at the esteemed Berlinale International Film Festival and received enthusiastic reviews. Ria’s single\, “Wanna Be There\,” received a nomination for “Record of the Year” at the 2024 Capital District Eddies Music Awards (“Eddies”). And Chuck took home the 2024 Eddies Music award for “Jazz Artist of the Year.” \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Caldwell Lake George Library\n336 Canada StLake George\, NY 12845518.668.2528 \nA treasure in Lake George\, The Caldwell Lake George Library’s collection dates back to the 1880s when it was bequeathed after the death of local resident DeWitt Clinton Hay. SUMMARY:Nook & Cranny @ The Barnsider
DESCRIPTION:About Nook & Cranny\nNook & Cranny is made up of two musicians from Upstate New York\, Angelina Valente and JP Hubbs. Valente studied Musical Theatre in college and Hubbs studied Piano. They were introduced in 2017 when they began making music together when in an eight piece bluegrass band. They had a connection and love of all kinds of music that sparked the duo’s desire to see what they could become on their own. You’ll find them covering standards\, discovering new jazz\, writing their own\, and bringing all sorts of guests up to the stage to make the band bigger and better each time they play. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THE BARNSIDER SMOKEHOUSE BBQ\n2112 U.S. 9 Lake George\, NY 12845518.668.5268 \nWith thirty two years of smokin’ and sauce slingin’ under our belt\, we know low and slow. With all the time that we’ve had to learn and grow\, we treat the art of barbecue with the respect it deserves. Our sauce and meat rubs are homemade\, and our meats are seasoned and cooked to perfection. SUMMARY:The Arch Stanton Trio @ Gaslight
DESCRIPTION:The Arch Stanton Trio\nThe Arch Stanton Trio is a guitar-led version of the band’s acclaimed quartet. Based in upstate New York\, the band performs original jazz that is experimental\, yet rooted in bop and post-bop traditions. \nTheir debut album of original compositions\, Along For The Ride\, was released in November 2012 on WEPA Records. “With one foot in the timeless traditions of bop\, and the other about to set down on something new\,” the group “is as mysterious as its name\, with killer players that aren’t afraid to go out on a limb\, right to the very end\,” wrote Dave Malachowski in his review for The Daily Freeman. \nIn March 2013 the band embarked on a tour of Egypt\, performing at the Cairo Jazz Festival and other gigs. The trip was sponsored by the educational organization AMIDEAST\, the U.S. Embassy Cairo\, and the Center for American Studies at the American University in Cairo. That same year\, the band opened for Charlie Hunter and Oleta Adams at the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival. \nDrawing from their experiences in Egypt\, the group\, in October 2014\, released a nine-song sophomore album\, Blues For Soli (also on WEPA Records)\, which includes a suite of music directly influenced by their Egypt tour. In a review of the album for Metroland\, Jeff Nania writes: “This record serves to showcase the evolution of a local group’s compositional style as they continue to go beyond bop and incorporate further cultural influences into their sound.” \nIn 2016\, the band performed at the Bridge Jazz Festival at the Massry Center in Albany\, opening for Ellis and Delfeayo Marsalis of the famed Marsalis family\, the “first family” of New Orleans Jazz. \nThe band has been a regular fixture of the Capital Region jazz club scene. It is currently planning material for its third album\, which will include a suite of compositions inspired by Ralph Ellison’s novel Invisible Man and other original pieces. \n \n Listen\, Watch\, & Learn More About The Arch Stanton Trio\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Gaslight. I opted for the wood fired pizza and it was really delicious\, I was very pleased with our choices. Second\, the staff here is wonderful. I dined at the bar and had a chance to talk to several of the staff; they were all friendly and knowledgable- I really appreciated this. Third\, the owner came over and chatted with me and asked me how my meal was\, that’s uncommon and it’s a mark of a good establishment. Finally\, Gaslight has a great\, accessible\, location and a really warm and interesting atmosphere. Check it out when you’re in Lake George\, I believe you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend.” – Hugo Stachel \n \n Check out their menu!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “With one foot in the timeless traditions of bop\, and the other about to set down on something new\, the Arch Stanton Quartet is as mysterious as its name\, with killer players that aren’t afraid to go out on a limb\, right to the very end.” – Dave Malachowski\, review of “Along For The Ride” for the Daily Freeman of Kingston\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n	\n 20 events found.	\n	\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n	Events\n\n	\n	\n	\n\n	\n Views Navigation	\n\n	\n	\n	\n Event Views Navigation	\n	\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Photo \n \n	\n\n \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n	\n	\n \n \n	\n	\n \n \n	\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n List \n	\n\n \n	\n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Month \n	\n\n \n	\n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Day \n	\n\n \n	\n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Photo \n	\n\n \n	\n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Week \n	\n\n \n	\n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Map \n	\n\n \n\n	\n\n\n\n\n	\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n	\n\n\n	\n	Today\n\n	\n	\n \n \n 2024-09-01 \n \n September 1\, 2024 \n \n - SUMMARY:Dylan Perrillo & Ryan Sullivan @ The Inn of Lake George
DESCRIPTION:About Dylan & Ryan\nBassist\, Dylan Perrillo (from Hot Club of Saratoga and the Dylan Perrillo Quartet) will be joined by Ryan Sullivan for a one-of-a-kind jazz experience that will have fans of gypsy and swing jazz moving in their seats. \nAbout Dylan Perrillo: Dylan grew up in the sunshiny village of Voorheesville\, New York where he was fortunate enough to have participated in their wonderful music program beginning in primary school. Originally having played guitar at the age of seven\, he found that his skills were rendered useless when his older brother\, Tyler\, began playing guitar as well. Thus\, it became clear to the young lad that switching over to the electric bass was necessary. When Dylan entered his studies at Schenectady County Community College he began to learn to play the upright bass and began playing with musicians from around the capital district. Since then\, he has had the pleasure of performing with some really great people from all over the country. \nAbout Ryan Sullivan: Ryan Sullivan is a vibrant multi-instrumentalist from upstate New York who has honed his craft on the streets of New Orleans serenading many-a passersby and delighting audiences from all over the world. His unique approach and enthusiasm gives new life to the old beat of yesteryear’s sounds. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Inn of Lake GeorgeThe Lobby Bar\n12 McGillis Avenue Lake George\, NY 12845518.668.4442 \nLobby Bar is a classic\, intimate cocktail lounge offering a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy handcrafted cocktails. DESCRIPTION:About Ulysses Owens Jr. \nThree time Grammy™ Award-Winning Drummer Ulysses Owens Jr.\, known for being a drummer who (The New York Times) has said “take[s] a back seat to no one\,” and “a musician who balances excitement gracefully and shines with innovation.” Performer\, producer and educator Ulysses Owens Jr. goes the limit in the jazz world and beyond; claiming eight successful albums of his own. \nOwens has also gained special attention for his performances on GRAMMY Award-winning albums by Kurt Elling and The Christian McBride Big Band . In addition to five GRAMMY Award Nominated albums with Joey Alexander\, Christian McBride Trio\, John Beasley’s Monk’estra\, and Gregory Porter. Both Jazziz and Rolling Stone Magazines picked his album “Songs of Freedom\,” as a Top Ten Album for 2019 and in 2021; his most recent Big Band release\, “Soul Conversations\,” was voted the top album in May 2021 by JazzIz Magazine. “Soul Conversations\,” received rave reviews and was added to multiple playlists on Apple Music\, Spotify\, and Sirius XM; and now the band is touring nationally. The Ulysses Owens Jr. Big Band has also been voted “Rising Star Big Band ” of 2022 by Downbeat Magazine. His upcoming eighth album release A New Beat\, will feature his new “Generation Y” Band on the Cellar Jazz record label. The album was produced by Jeremy Pelt and recorded at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studios\, in New Jersey. \nAbout Generation Y\nGeneration Y is a band concept that was conceived back in 2019 with the goal promoting the next generation of dynamic talent from the top music conservatories in NYC and beyond. Led by Ulysses Owens Jr. who is a Multi Grammy Award-winning Drummer\, Producer\, Educator\, Author and Cultural Entrepreneur. \nServing at The Juilliard School in the role of Small Ensemble Director within the Jazz Department for the last 8 years\, has given Ulysses a front row seat to this Generation’s top talent. Ulysses Owens Jr.\, has been the driving force behind such great artists as Nicholas Payton\, Christian McBride\, Wynton Marsalis\, Mulgrew Miller\, Joey Alexander and many others. Through his relationship with these great bandleaders he learned of the legacy of Art Blakey and Betty Carter\, both of whom were renowned for their own bands (which became educational institutions) and launched the careers of many of today’s paradigm-shifting musicians on the jazz scene. Generation Y is an updated model of the Jazz Messengers\, and many of these band members also perform in Ulysses’ big band. \nThe band just recorded their debut album “A New Beat” that will be released on the Cellar Live Record label\, in January 2024. The material on this album is a culmination of repertoire from Ulysses’ influences and mentors like Mulgrew Miller\, Roy Hargrove\, George Cables\, and of course the great Art Blakey. This album also features a few original compositions from Benny Benack\, Anthony Hervey\, and the very talented Luther Allison who is an emerging talent performing with Grammy Award-winning vocalist\, Samara Joy as her pianist. The album also features a classic from Louis Armstrong titled Heart Full of Rhythm featuring Milton Suggs\, which learned during his time as the Louis Armstrong Museum ‘“Armstrong Now Artist in Residence.” This album is a culmination of repertoire that has been performed by this band around the world over the last 4 years and to add another level of nostalgia; it was recorded at the Legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studios in Englewood\, NJ. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ulysses Owens Jr. – Drums\nAnthony Hervey – Trumpet\nErena Terakubo – Alto Saxophone\nTyler Bullock – Piano\nGuillermo Lopez – Bass\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n One By One – Ulysses Owens Jr and Generation Y\n \n \n \n \n \n I’m Not So Sure – Ulysses Owens Jr & Generation Y\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Ulysses Owens Jr.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 4 DAYS • 17 SHOWS • 4 SPECIAL EVENTSCELEBRATING 40 YEARS!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THURSDAY 9/12 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 10AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 7:30PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 5PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 9AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 8PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 5PM

SUMMARY:Daniel Kelly Group: Celebrating Paul Pines
DESCRIPTION:About Daniel Kelly / The Daniel Kelly Group\nPianist & composer Daniel Kelly first performed at Jazz at the Lake in 2004 with the Harvie S band. He returned over the years with his Emerge Trio\, the WORKS Trio with Joe Lovano\, and his multimedia collaboration with The Seeing with Photography Collective\, Blind Visionaries\, inaugurating the first Friday evening Jazz at the Lake performance. \nAn artist who explores the meeting place of music with literature\, visual art and journalism with his various projects\, Daniel has created several works that incorporate poetry\, including All the World’s a Song: Shakespeare in Jazz\, which interprets Shakespeare’s words as lyrics to jazz songs. \nIn honor of the 40th anniversary of the festival\, Daniel uses the poetry of Paul Pines as inspiration for the music for this year’s performance. Paul\, who founded the Lake George Jazz Weekend along with John Strong in 1984\, was a dear friend to Daniel. He previously collaborated with Paul in his final months in 2018\, composing settings for poems from his book Gathering Sparks in a 45-minute suite scored for a jazz septet titled Museum of the Infinite. This year\, Daniel will explore Paul’s poetry throughout his writing career\, anthologized in the collection A Furnace in the Shadows: Selected Poems. \nKelly’s music has been declared “powerfully moving” by Time Out New York. He has performed with Grammy-award winners Joe Lovano & Nicole Zuraitis\, hip-hop star Lauryn Hill\, cutting-edge modern classical The Bang on a Can All-Stars and a long list of jazz musicians such as NEA Jazz Masters Dave Liebman & Sheila Jordan\, Don Byron\, Donny McCaslin\, Bobby Sanabria and many others. \nRakonto\, Kelly’s series of interview-based concerts\, have been commissioned by 13 performing art centers across the US. Each of these concert-length works have transformed stories of everyday people – farmers\, teachers\, students\, seniors\, immigrants and hurricane survivors – into dramatic and compelling music that celebrates our shared human experience. \nDaniel has been honored to continue Paul’s role as Curator of Jazz at the Lake for the past five years. \n“I remain convinced that Daniel Kelly is one of the most stunningly original talents both as an improviser and a leader that I have known in a long career of promoting this art form. His musical ideas spring naturally from a visionary imagination.” — Paul Pines\, Curator\, Lake George Jazz Weekend \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Daniel Kelly – pianoJesse Lewis – guitarIke Sturm – bassJared Schonig – drumsDavid Gonzalez – spoken word\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HIS MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n All the World’s a Stage; Shakespeare in Jazz\n \n \n \n \n \n Entrance to the Underworld – poetry by Paul Pines\, music composed by Daniel Kelly\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Daniel Kelly\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 4 DAYS • 17 SHOWS • 4 SPECIAL EVENTSCELEBRATING 40 YEARS!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THURSDAY 9/12 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 10AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 7:30PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 5PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 9AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 8PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 5PM

We sleep as our bodies lay dying\, preferring the limitlessness and safety of fantasies rather than the reality of the growing inferno. Our inability to acknowledge or agree on a collective logic has ensnared us into a new Dark Age\, which will likely lead to our extinction\, or worse\, mass obsolescence to simulacra. The human figures in the robotic installation Corpo and the mechanisms that prop them up serve as a metaphor for our collective denialism. \nEach figure in the installation is in a state of deep sleep as they work\, ride the subway\, watch tv\, or lounge on arm chairs. Unpredictably\, they are put into states of chaotic and violent inertia by the machines they are literally attached to. To ensure the figures stay blissfully sleeping\, an artificial intelligence continuously fills the installation space with a soothing generatively made soundscape\, which acts as a surrogate mother\, humming an endless lullaby. By this the installation Corpo reflects our global culture of looking the other way\, even when our existence is so obviously in peril. \nThe film\nin the electric tower\,\nthat is the dominant\ndisplay. \nEarly in the year 2023\, I had an extraordinarily vivid dream. In this dream\, a sage\, seated inside a large circular hole cut into a stage\, urgently exclaimed to me\, “The film in the electric tower\, that is the dominant display!” The moment was so profound that I awoke suddenly\, scrambling to find something to write with so I wouldn’t forget the message. Since that night\, the sage’s words have resonated\, leaving me bewildered yet intrigued as I struggle to understand their meaning. \nIn this exhibition\, I invite viewers to contemplate their own “electric towers” and “films.” What dominant displays shape your perceptions? What crucial messages are waiting to be screened in your consciousness? Through this body of work\, I aim to illuminate these questions and encourage a deeper understanding of the narratives that define our existence. \n\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nGardens of Earthly Delights\n“Bureaucracy is the art of making the possible impossible.” – Javier Pascual Salcedo \nShame on us\, the children of the future\, for remaining in the dark on cannabis\, a substance ingrained in human history since antiquity. Our comprehension\, obstructed by our delight in distorting reality\, political agendas and bureaucratic absurdities\, remains tragically inadequate in discerning marijuana’s benefits or poisons. For over a century\, “reefer madness” narratives have imprisoned culture and thwarted intellect\, twisting our view on a subject that should be crystal clear\, given our miraculous technologies. Shame on us! \nThanks to the courage of pioneering scholars and researchers\, we have managed to harvest precious limited data on the effects of high-potency cannabis on the population. Yet\, compared to the encyclopedias we have on other\, often younger substances\, what is known is laughable and mostly anecdotal. Until science is free to investigate cannabis without fear of academic\, cultural or legal repercussions\, attempting to create sober policy or regulations on this mysterious substance is as absurd as wondering if\, and how\, space bears can become intoxicated by marijuana. \nBiography: \nFrom robots that hold protests\, extruders that birth populations and machines that are designed for the dead to operate\, Fernando Orellana has collaborated with automation for over twenty years to create transmedia artwork. As a machine designer\, a technologist and a user\, Orellana has blurred the line between himself and the machine in the creative process. The imagery and narrative that Orellana explores spans a spectrum that includes giving agency to automata\, embraces the generatively made\, celebrates the wonder of absurdity and is most often driven by the universes of his subconscious mind. \nHe has exhibited at a variety of regional\, national and international venues\, most recently at the Toledo Museum of Art\, the Speed Art Museum\, the Spring Break Art Show and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He received a Master of Fine Art from The Ohio State University\, a Bachelor of Fine Art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently an Associate Professor of Digital Art in the Visual Arts Department at Union College. He was born in El Salvador\, San Salvador. \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nCourthouse Gallery 1 Lower Amherst Street Lake George\, NY 12845 518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\nFor exhibition information or to schedule a visit outside of gallery hours please contactJune Waters\, Director of Exhibitions june@lakegeorgearts.org 518-668-2616\nThank you to our exhibition sponsors!

I allow the piece to dictate the medium; therefore\, one medium may feed the color saturation\, while another may best enhance shape\, form and pattern. My work is heavily influenced by the natural world\, my surroundings\, color\, repetition and patterns. I am also inspired by the binary energies of chaos and order\, growth and decay. Within my paintings\, I combine elements of representation and abstraction to show this inspiration\, while incorporating a strong sense of beauty. \nMy artwork often starts with an ordered approach while my ideas get outlined on the surface. Influenced by color\, shapes\, and light\, the process of painting develops with many layers. Repetitious forms and patterns emerge\, creating abstract and playful landscapes. My abstractions reflect the journeys and paths we discover in the process of living amidst this natural order. The repetition of object and form attempts to further understand and interpret the natural rhythmic order of the universe—micro and macro—as exhibited by the natural things all around us. \nMy focus is driven by my desire to understand how individual elements and pieces come together to create a whole. My current works use cellular structures as a point of reference. Using ovals and circles as my primary shape\, I begin with a repetition of these shapes to create an abstract environment into which these shapes move along the two-dimensional surface. Working in layers\, I create a floating environment that can be cellular\, floral\, or purely abstract. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Bio \nAli Herrmann is a mixed media painter based in Troy\, NY. Raised in the bucolic Berkshires of Massachusetts\, Herrmann developed an early interest in the raw beauty of the natural landscape\, the ever-changing seasons\, and the rich flora and fauna of the region. \nThroughout her nearly 30-year career as an artist\, Herrmann has been awarded multiple grants including the New York State Council for the Arts (2023\, 2022); A.R.T. fund\, NY (2020); Martha Boschen Porter Fund Grant from the Berkshire Taconic Foundation\, MA (2019\, 2014); and a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant (2017). She has exhibited widely including Ford Studios\, VA; The Arts Center of the Capital Region\, NY; Albany Center Gallery\, NY; Emerge Gallery\, NY; and The Berkshire Museum\, MA. Her work is in the permanent collections of RCA Screen Gems Productions\, CA; Sony Pictures Entertainment\, NY; Red Lion Inn\, MA; as well as several private collections. Artist residencies include the Millay Arts\, NY (2020); Main Street Arts\, NY (2017); and the Vermont Studio Center\, VT (2007). She studied Fine Arts at Bennington College\, VT\, achieving a BFA (1998) in painting and printmaking. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nCourthouse Gallery1 Lower Amherst StreetLake George\, NY 12845518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\nFor exhibition information or to schedule a visitoutside of gallery hours please contactJune Waters\, Director of Exhibitions june@lakegeorgearts.org 518-668-2616\nThank you to our exhibition sponsors!\nThe Town of Lake GeorgeThe Village of Lake GeorgeNYSCAThe Alfred Z. SUMMARY:Project Local: Vincent Woolley Photographs through March 1st
DESCRIPTION:Bio \nAs a graduate of William and Mary College with a degree in teaching\, Woolley decided that sitting in a classroom was not really where he wanted to be. His love of art and the outdoors led him to the life of a photographer\, and although he worked in many fields of photography\, landscape photography is his real love. His early work was influenced by photographers Edward Weston\, Ansel Adams\, Minor Whyte\, and Wynn Bullock.  \nHe soon developed his own style which was more personal and abstract.  Most of his early work was done with a 4 x 5 View Camera shooting black and white; today he works with digital cameras in both black and white and color. \nHe was awarded a grant to photograph in Antarctica in 2015. Previous exhibitions include: Little Church Gallery\, NJ After Image Gallery\, Dallas\, TX The Courthouse Gallery\, Lake George Various galleries in Florida Publications: Southwest Photo Dallas Photo Adirondack Life \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Reception at the Caldwell-Lake George LibraryMonday\, February 10th6:00 – 8:00 PM \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Statement \nThe work you will see in this exhibition covers many years.  As a landscape photographer\, my work includes anything that I find beautiful.  My favorite subjects include the Southwest\, ice\, river foam\, and water reflections\, all of which you can see here. I really like pictures that make you think and take a while to figure out. As my perception of the world around me changes\, so will my photos!  Enjoy! \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Images: Top: Detail\, Ice Curtain Left: Fall Aspens \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Caldwell-Lake George Library336 Canada StreetLakeGeorge\, NY 12845518-668-2528

SUMMARY:The Eye of the River: Textile Paintings by Lola Lefrançois
DESCRIPTION:Images:Top: Detail\, Rainbow Lorikeet\, 160 x 60 inches\, Oil paint and acrylic on fabricRight: Was the Ugly Duckling Ever a Swan?\, 11 x 17 inches\, Oil paint and acrylic on fabric \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Statement \nInspired by the utopian quality of Western landscape paintings\, my work exposes the stark contrast between these idyllic scenes and the contemporary treatment of nature and animals. Drawing from my childhood in Auroville\, India—a commune founded on utopian ideals of perfect humanity—I explore the alluring facade of a perfect place that ultimately reveals humanity’s capacity for violence. \nI grew up in Auroville\, an experimental township in India devoted to human unity\, founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (“the Mother”) and designed by architect Roger Anger. Living there for 8 years\, I attended Transition School\, where my education focused on our connection with the surrounding environment\, emphasizing notions of awareness and empathy. Leaving Auroville and traveling with my mother\, I became fascinated by the contrasting reality behind the idealized image I grew up with. \nMy work is dedicated to questioning our traditional painting heritage\, referencing and altering both landscape painting and classical interior décor imagery. I paint on used fabrics that have flower or plant pattern reminiscent of traditional bourgeois interiors. Staining and cutting these fabrics\, I deliberately alter and disrupt their original visibility. Referencing movements like the Hudson River School and 18th- and 19th-century European landscape painting\, I adapt my painting crafting fragmented and decaying landscapes. My landscapes are strange yet familiar\, inviting viewers to lose themselves in this illusory sense of peace and calm. Here\, the boundaries blur between pleasure and harm\, beauty and destruction\, challenging us to question how these notions coexist. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Artist \nLola Lefrançois is a French artist based in New York City. Inspired by her childhood in the commune of Auroville\, India\, she explores the intricate relationship between humanity\, nature\, and violence. In 2019\, she completed her Bachelor of Studio Art at The École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and her MFA in 2023 at the City College of New York. Since then\, she has actively participated in residency programs such as The Canopy Program\, ChaNorth\, Monson Arts\, the NARS Foundation Program (2024)\, and The Rockella Residency Program (2023). \nLola has showcased her work in several exhibitions in New York City and France. Her recent and upcoming solo exhibitions include “The Eye of the River” at Lake George\, NY (2025)\, “A Parakeet’s Whisper?” at One-Eyed Studios\, NY (2023)\, and “Fish Don’t Die With Their Eyes Closed” at C&G Gallery\, City College of New York\, NY (2023). Her group exhibitions include “Bodiless Body” at the NARS Foundation (2024)\, “What We Did Last Summer” at C&G Gallery\, NY (2022)\, and Les ÉVAsions des Arts (“The Escape of the Arts”) in Villy en Auxois\, France (2020). She was awarded the 1st Prize of The Kenza Scholarship for the Arts in 2021. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nCourthouse Gallery1 Lower Amherst StreetLake George\, NY 12845518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\nFor exhibition information or to schedule a visitoutside of gallery hours please contactJune Waters\, Director of Exhibitions june@lakegeorgearts.org 518-668-2616\nThank you to our exhibition sponsors!
