SUMMARY:Hot Club of Saratoga
DESCRIPTION:Annie and the Hedonists were originally scheduled to perform our 1st summer concert of the season – Unfortunately\, they won’t be able to perform on July 6\, but we are working hard to re-schedule them for later this summer… \nOur July 6 concert isn’t cancelled though – we present HOT CLUB OF SARATOGA\, upstate New York’s premier gypsy swing collective!\n \n“Hot Club of Saratoga\, the Capital Region’s premier gypsy swing ensemble\, plays a repertoire that reflects the spirit and style originated by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in The Quintet of the Hot Club of France. Most prominently developed in 1930’s and 40’s Paris\, this genre has been kept alive through a long line of gypsy jazz artists since that time. \nThe instrumentation of the full quintet allows HCS to explore this style throughout the range of its roots\, true to its origins while subtly expanding the genre. Hot Club’s repertoire covers the range from sweet\, soulful balladry\, through hard driving swing\, and fiery\, upbeat tempos\, sure to bring a smile and irresistible desire to move.” \n______________________________________________ \nOur Summer Concert Series brings the most FUN bands to Shepard Park for concerts on Wednesday nights in July and August.  All of our concerts are FREE – so grab your family and friends and bring them to Lake George for an evening of great music!\n\nView our Complete Summer Concert Series Event Calendar HERE \nOur Summer Concert Series would not be possible without the support of The Town of Lake George\, The Village of Lake George\, The New York State Council on the Arts\, and our generous members and supporters! \n\n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Irja Boden and Beth Humphrey
DESCRIPTION:Irja Boden \nBeth Humphrey \n  \nThe Lake George Arts Project’s Courthouse Gallery presents “Ceramics & Collage”\, a two-person exhibition of ceramics by Irja Bodén and collage\, drawings and paintings by Beth Humphrey. Join us for an opening reception at the gallery for the artists on Saturday\, July 16\, 4 – 6 PM. \nIrja Bodén’s ceramic work combines raw clay and glazes in a rich textured surface. Her series “To Dress a Ptarmigan” refers to her hometown\, Kiruna (67.8558° N) in Sweden\, north of the arctic circle. It is the inspiration for much of her work since 2018. She says: “The title references Kiruna\, which in Sápmi means ptarmigan. The city’s center\, now unstable after decades of iron mining\, is being destroyed and rebuilt in a new location\, to a dismaying loss. Yet\, the area is also known for many things\, among them spectacular shows of aurora borealis. So Kiruna exists in tension between what is above and below.” \nIrja Bodén earned her BFA in painting from SUNY Potsdam\, and a BA in Social Science from Lund University\, Sweden. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in the US and abroad\, including The Samuel Dorsky Museum\, New Paltz\, NY; Woodstock Artist Association & Museum\, Woodstock\, NY; Amos Eno Gallery\, Brooklyn\, NY; The Immigrant Artist Biennial 2020; Ely Center of Contemporary Art\, New Haven\, CT;  LABspace\, Hillsdale\, NY; and Konstmuseet i Norr\, Kiruna\, Sweden. In 2022 her ceramics will be featured by the River Valley Arts Collective at The Al Held Foundation\, ART + NATURE + HOME ‘22\, Upstate Diary. Her awards include residencies at Byrdcliffe\, Woodstock\, NY; Mass MoCA Studios; Vermont Studio Center\, and a grant from The Berkshire Taconic Foundation. She lives and works in NY’s Hudson Valley. \nBeth Humphrey’s recent collage work often begins with brown paper bags as a ground\, where she builds up the surface with paint\, wood\, and found materials. She says: “I love the expression ‘force of nature’.  I think about cycles\, evaporation\, respiration\, erosion\, gentle and violent forces at a moment of change. The shape of things at moments of transformation\, how forces intersect with our connection to place\, our connection to our environment\, both built and natural\, is fascinating to me.” \nBeth Humphrey earned her BFA from Minneapolis College of Art & Design\, and a Certificate in Craft\, Surface Design\, Oregon College of Art & Craft. Recent solo exhibitions were presented at Unison Arts\, New Paltz\, NY and Deepdive Projects\, Cleveland OH. She has been included in numerous group exhibitions\, including Ephemerally Occupied\, Shaker Heritage Society\, Albany NY; Pieced Together\, Art at Albany Public Library with Olpalka Gallery\, Albany NY; Not Just another Anthropocentric Love Story\, Trestle Gallery\, Brooklyn NY; Rhizomatic\, William Blizzard Gallery Springfield College\, Springfield MA; Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Region\, Albany Institute for History & Art\, Albany NY; Cut & Color\, Albany International Airport Gallery\, Albany NY; and Translations\, Albany Center Gallery\, Albany NY. Her awards include a residency at Ucross Foundation\, WY\, and a NYFA Mark Program Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts. She lives and works in the Catskill Mountains of NY. \nThe Courthouse Gallery is located at the side entrance of the Old County Courthouse\, corner of Canada and Lower Amherst Streets in Lake George\, NY. During scheduled exhibitions dates our in-person office and gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday 12 – 5 pm\, Saturday 12 – 4 pm. \nIf you need to reach us between active exhibition dates we are available through phone and/or email:\nLaura Von Rosk\, Gallery Director\, 518.323.5499\, laura@lakegeorgearts.org\nTanya Tobias-Tomis\, Executive Director\, 518.832.0183\, tanya@lakegeorgearts.org \nThis exhibition is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York State Legislature; the Town and Village of Lake George; Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation; 518 Profiles; The Alfred Z Solomon Charitable Trust and LGAP members. Please Join us today! \nthank you to our sponsors:\n    \n

SUMMARY:The Twangtown Paramours
DESCRIPTION:Nashville-based husband-and-wife duo Mike T. Lewis and MaryBeth Zamer\, known on stage as The Twangtown Paramours\, have made a name for themselves defying boundaries with their award-winning catalogue of Americana\, folk\, and blues anthems. With a slew of accolades for their first two acoustic full-length albums\, they’ve earned a loyal following\, balancing serious instrumental and vocal chops with witty stage banter and a lighthearted approach to life. They don’t take themselves\, or the world\, too seriously. Now poised to release their third full-length album\, Double Down on a Bad Thing\, The Twangtown Paramours are shifting gears to showcase a full band\, electric\, groove-oriented\, upbeat\, soul-infused\, and retro blues sound. “We want people to have fun\, to cheer up\, to dance\, and to start sporting a positive attitude\, dammit\,” says Mike.\n______________________________________________ \nOur Summer Concert Series brings the most FUN bands to Shepard Park for concerts on Wednesday nights in July and August. \n\n \n  \n
