We sleep as our bodies lay dying\, preferring the limitlessness and safety of fantasies rather than the reality of the growing inferno. Our inability to acknowledge or agree on a collective logic has ensnared us into a new Dark Age\, which will likely lead to our extinction\, or worse\, mass obsolescence to simulacra. The human figures in the robotic installation Corpo and the mechanisms that prop them up serve as a metaphor for our collective denialism. \nEach figure in the installation is in a state of deep sleep as they work\, ride the subway\, watch tv\, or lounge on arm chairs. Unpredictably\, they are put into states of chaotic and violent inertia by the machines they are literally attached to. To ensure the figures stay blissfully sleeping\, an artificial intelligence continuously fills the installation space with a soothing generatively made soundscape\, which acts as a surrogate mother\, humming an endless lullaby. By this the installation Corpo reflects our global culture of looking the other way\, even when our existence is so obviously in peril. \nThe film\nin the electric tower\,\nthat is the dominant\ndisplay. \nEarly in the year 2023\, I had an extraordinarily vivid dream. In this dream\, a sage\, seated inside a large circular hole cut into a stage\, urgently exclaimed to me\, “The film in the electric tower\, that is the dominant display!” The moment was so profound that I awoke suddenly\, scrambling to find something to write with so I wouldn’t forget the message. Since that night\, the sage’s words have resonated\, leaving me bewildered yet intrigued as I struggle to understand their meaning. \nIn this exhibition\, I invite viewers to contemplate their own “electric towers” and “films.” What dominant displays shape your perceptions? What crucial messages are waiting to be screened in your consciousness? Through this body of work\, I aim to illuminate these questions and encourage a deeper understanding of the narratives that define our existence. \n\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nGardens of Earthly Delights\n“Bureaucracy is the art of making the possible impossible.” – Javier Pascual Salcedo \nShame on us\, the children of the future\, for remaining in the dark on cannabis\, a substance ingrained in human history since antiquity. Our comprehension\, obstructed by our delight in distorting reality\, political agendas and bureaucratic absurdities\, remains tragically inadequate in discerning marijuana’s benefits or poisons. For over a century\, “reefer madness” narratives have imprisoned culture and thwarted intellect\, twisting our view on a subject that should be crystal clear\, given our miraculous technologies. Shame on us! \nThanks to the courage of pioneering scholars and researchers\, we have managed to harvest precious limited data on the effects of high-potency cannabis on the population. Yet\, compared to the encyclopedias we have on other\, often younger substances\, what is known is laughable and mostly anecdotal. Until science is free to investigate cannabis without fear of academic\, cultural or legal repercussions\, attempting to create sober policy or regulations on this mysterious substance is as absurd as wondering if\, and how\, space bears can become intoxicated by marijuana. \nBiography: \nFrom robots that hold protests\, extruders that birth populations and machines that are designed for the dead to operate\, Fernando Orellana has collaborated with automation for over twenty years to create transmedia artwork. As a machine designer\, a technologist and a user\, Orellana has blurred the line between himself and the machine in the creative process. The imagery and narrative that Orellana explores spans a spectrum that includes giving agency to automata\, embraces the generatively made\, celebrates the wonder of absurdity and is most often driven by the universes of his subconscious mind. \nHe has exhibited at a variety of regional\, national and international venues\, most recently at the Toledo Museum of Art\, the Speed Art Museum\, the Spring Break Art Show and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He received a Master of Fine Art from The Ohio State University\, a Bachelor of Fine Art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently an Associate Professor of Digital Art in the Visual Arts Department at Union College. He was born in El Salvador\, San Salvador. \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nCourthouse Gallery 1 Lower Amherst Street Lake George\, NY 12845 518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\nFor exhibition information or to schedule a visit outside of gallery hours please contactJune Waters\, Director of Exhibitions june@lakegeorgearts.org 518-668-2616\nThank you to our exhibition sponsors!

SUMMARY:Project Local at the Caldwell-Lake George Library
DESCRIPTION:Mark Grimaldi\nGrimaldi is renowned for his expertise in abstract expressionism; his artistic journey is deeply influenced by the iconic American artist\, Jackson Pollock. With a portfolio of work found in studios\, professional offices\, and private collections\, his style captivates viewers worldwide. \nMastering the “drip” technique over years of dedication\, Grimaldi infused his distinct flair into this iconic method. Seeking innovation\, he adapted the technique to diverse surfaces\, including elevated vertical planes\, without revealing traditional “drips.” \nHe also envisioned reimagining the spectrum of objects suitable for this style\, enriching each with narrative depth and emotive resonance. Through meticulous\nexperimentation\, Grimaldi perfected the fusion of paint type and application method\, achieving his envisioned results. \nEvery creation bears the essence of his soul\, ensuring each piece is a singular\, unparalleled original. Rejecting mass production\, he remains committed to the authenticity of his craft\, eschewing prints in favor of genuine\, intimate artworks. \nMark lives in Lake George. His work is shown at the Tivoli Arts Gallery in Tivoli\, NY\, and Art Gallery 71 in Rhinebeck\, NY\, and can be seen at markgrimaldi.com.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nJude Dolton\nYou see something\, you pull out your camera and take the picture.  That picture is almost exactly what you see in front of you right?  That’s what photography is at its core\, it’s a way to capture the world.  Since almost everyone has a camera in their pocket\, we are seeing the same photos over\, and over.  The more I have noticed this\, the more I have turned away from just documenting what I’m seeing.  Using long exposures\, I have been taking a more impressionistic approach.  I use the term Impressionism because much like the paintings from that era\, even with objects and subject matter you can identify the work is very much still abstract. \nJude Dolton is a 2019 graduate of Glens Falls High School. In 2022 they received a grant to photograph and document local motel signs resulting in a solo exhibition at the Warren County Historical Society.  She has exhibited locally with the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council\, North Country Arts\, and The Folklife Center at Crandall Library. Their work was also featured in the Top 100 Juried High School Student Art Show at The Hyde Collection (2018). I allow the piece to dictate the medium; therefore\, one medium may feed the color saturation\, while another may best enhance shape\, form and pattern. My work is heavily influenced by the natural world\, my surroundings\, color\, repetition and patterns. I am also inspired by the binary energies of chaos and order\, growth and decay. Within my paintings\, I combine elements of representation and abstraction to show this inspiration\, while incorporating a strong sense of beauty. \nMy artwork often starts with an ordered approach while my ideas get outlined on the surface. Influenced by color\, shapes\, and light\, the process of painting develops with many layers. Repetitious forms and patterns emerge\, creating abstract and playful landscapes. My abstractions reflect the journeys and paths we discover in the process of living amidst this natural order. The repetition of object and form attempts to further understand and interpret the natural rhythmic order of the universe—micro and macro—as exhibited by the natural things all around us. \nMy focus is driven by my desire to understand how individual elements and pieces come together to create a whole. My current works use cellular structures as a point of reference. Using ovals and circles as my primary shape\, I begin with a repetition of these shapes to create an abstract environment into which these shapes move along the two-dimensional surface. Working in layers\, I create a floating environment that can be cellular\, floral\, or purely abstract. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Bio \nAli Herrmann is a mixed media painter based in Troy\, NY. Raised in the bucolic Berkshires of Massachusetts\, Herrmann developed an early interest in the raw beauty of the natural landscape\, the ever-changing seasons\, and the rich flora and fauna of the region. \nThroughout her nearly 30-year career as an artist\, Herrmann has been awarded multiple grants including the New York State Council for the Arts (2023\, 2022); A.R.T. fund\, NY (2020); Martha Boschen Porter Fund Grant from the Berkshire Taconic Foundation\, MA (2019\, 2014); and a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant (2017). She has exhibited widely including Ford Studios\, VA; The Arts Center of the Capital Region\, NY; Albany Center Gallery\, NY; Emerge Gallery\, NY; and The Berkshire Museum\, MA. Her work is in the permanent collections of RCA Screen Gems Productions\, CA; Sony Pictures Entertainment\, NY; Red Lion Inn\, MA; as well as several private collections. Artist residencies include the Millay Arts\, NY (2020); Main Street Arts\, NY (2017); and the Vermont Studio Center\, VT (2007). She studied Fine Arts at Bennington College\, VT\, achieving a BFA (1998) in painting and printmaking. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nCourthouse Gallery1 Lower Amherst StreetLake George\, NY 12845518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\nFor exhibition information or to schedule a visitoutside of gallery hours please contactJune Waters\, Director of Exhibitions june@lakegeorgearts.org 518-668-2616\nThank you to our exhibition sponsors!\nThe Town of Lake GeorgeThe Village of Lake GeorgeNYSCAThe Alfred Z. SUMMARY:Project Local: Vincent Woolley Photographs through March 1st
DESCRIPTION:Bio \nAs a graduate of William and Mary College with a degree in teaching\, Woolley decided that sitting in a classroom was not really where he wanted to be. His love of art and the outdoors led him to the life of a photographer\, and although he worked in many fields of photography\, landscape photography is his real love. His early work was influenced by photographers Edward Weston\, Ansel Adams\, Minor Whyte\, and Wynn Bullock.  \nHe soon developed his own style which was more personal and abstract.  Most of his early work was done with a 4 x 5 View Camera shooting black and white; today he works with digital cameras in both black and white and color. \nHe was awarded a grant to photograph in Antarctica in 2015. Previous exhibitions include: Little Church Gallery\, NJ After Image Gallery\, Dallas\, TX The Courthouse Gallery\, Lake George Various galleries in Florida Publications: Southwest Photo Dallas Photo Adirondack Life \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Reception at the Caldwell-Lake George LibraryMonday\, February 10th6:00 – 8:00 PM \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Statement \nThe work you will see in this exhibition covers many years.  As a landscape photographer\, my work includes anything that I find beautiful.  My favorite subjects include the Southwest\, ice\, river foam\, and water reflections\, all of which you can see here. I really like pictures that make you think and take a while to figure out. As my perception of the world around me changes\, so will my photos!  Enjoy! \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Images: Top: Detail\, Ice Curtain Left: Fall Aspens \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Caldwell-Lake George Library336 Canada StreetLakeGeorge\, NY 12845518-668-2528

SUMMARY:The Eye of the River: Textile Paintings by Lola Lefrançois
DESCRIPTION:Images:Top: Detail\, Rainbow Lorikeet\, 160 x 60 inches\, Oil paint and acrylic on fabricRight: Was the Ugly Duckling Ever a Swan?\, 11 x 17 inches\, Oil paint and acrylic on fabric \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Statement \nInspired by the utopian quality of Western landscape paintings\, my work exposes the stark contrast between these idyllic scenes and the contemporary treatment of nature and animals. Drawing from my childhood in Auroville\, India—a commune founded on utopian ideals of perfect humanity—I explore the alluring facade of a perfect place that ultimately reveals humanity’s capacity for violence. \nI grew up in Auroville\, an experimental township in India devoted to human unity\, founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (“the Mother”) and designed by architect Roger Anger. Living there for 8 years\, I attended Transition School\, where my education focused on our connection with the surrounding environment\, emphasizing notions of awareness and empathy. Leaving Auroville and traveling with my mother\, I became fascinated by the contrasting reality behind the idealized image I grew up with. \nMy work is dedicated to questioning our traditional painting heritage\, referencing and altering both landscape painting and classical interior décor imagery. I paint on used fabrics that have flower or plant pattern reminiscent of traditional bourgeois interiors. Staining and cutting these fabrics\, I deliberately alter and disrupt their original visibility. Referencing movements like the Hudson River School and 18th- and 19th-century European landscape painting\, I adapt my painting crafting fragmented and decaying landscapes. My landscapes are strange yet familiar\, inviting viewers to lose themselves in this illusory sense of peace and calm. Here\, the boundaries blur between pleasure and harm\, beauty and destruction\, challenging us to question how these notions coexist. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Artist \nLola Lefrançois is a French artist based in New York City. Inspired by her childhood in the commune of Auroville\, India\, she explores the intricate relationship between humanity\, nature\, and violence. In 2019\, she completed her Bachelor of Studio Art at The École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and her MFA in 2023 at the City College of New York. Since then\, she has actively participated in residency programs such as The Canopy Program\, ChaNorth\, Monson Arts\, the NARS Foundation Program (2024)\, and The Rockella Residency Program (2023). \nLola has showcased her work in several exhibitions in New York City and France. Her recent and upcoming solo exhibitions include “The Eye of the River” at Lake George\, NY (2025)\, “A Parakeet’s Whisper?” at One-Eyed Studios\, NY (2023)\, and “Fish Don’t Die With Their Eyes Closed” at C&G Gallery\, City College of New York\, NY (2023). Her group exhibitions include “Bodiless Body” at the NARS Foundation (2024)\, “What We Did Last Summer” at C&G Gallery\, NY (2022)\, and Les ÉVAsions des Arts (“The Escape of the Arts”) in Villy en Auxois\, France (2020). She was awarded the 1st Prize of The Kenza Scholarship for the Arts in 2021. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nCourthouse Gallery1 Lower Amherst StreetLake George\, NY 12845518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\nFor exhibition information or to schedule a visitoutside of gallery hours please contactJune Waters\, Director of Exhibitions june@lakegeorgearts.org 518-668-2616\nThank you to our exhibition sponsors!

SUMMARY:Project Local: Maria De Angelo at the Caldwell-Lake George Library
DESCRIPTION:Maria DeAngeloMixed MediaCard CollagesThrough April 30th\nArtist’s ReceptionThursday\, April 24th6:00 – 8:00 PM\n \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Artist:\nMaria DeAngelo is an artist and educator who was born and raised in Schenectady\, NY. After living 30 years in the Adirondack Mountains\, she and her husband have relocated and established their studio in Altamont\, New York. Her explorations in art making are varied. Ms. DeAngelo studied Fine Art at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Her concentrations were in Painting and Printmaking. She graduated with a BFA and went on to earn her MSEd from Potsdam College. Working with children has been a passion and inspiration for Ms. DeAngelo. Having taught hundreds of young artists over her career\, Ms. DeAngelo shares their love of exploration and discovery. In addition to teaching art in the classroom setting\, Ms. DeAngelo has facilitated murals\, art clubs\, and community art enrichment programs. Ms. DeAngelo has worked in large scale installation\, mural painting\, studio painting\, sculpture\, printmaking\, fabric arts and jewelry creation. She is a member of the Schenectady Art Society\, Albany Artists Group\, Firehouse Painters and ArtWorks. As a studio artist\, she was an Artist in Residence at Arlene’s Artist Materials for two years\, where she is now a One-on-One Mentor for artists. She continues her explorations of the intersections between personal history and plant forms using printmaking\, painting and stitching. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Statment:\nEach of the paintings in this show contains scraps of my life. Some are precious\, my parents’ love letters and my grandfather’s college notes\, while others are more common\, the bits of a mylar birthday balloon or a piece of paint stained paper towel I cleaned my tools with. The “canvas” of the works are playing cards\, each collaged with life pieces held together with paint. Some I have stitched together\, a skill learned from my mother\, that I find myself returning to in cycles within my creative life. The stitches are a tool I used to combine the parts of these works and “draw” with line and color. When creating this body of work\, I gave myself the challenge to limit the color palette of the backgrounds to five colors that I used in varied amounts in every piece in the show. These colors are the bridge between the bits of life collage and the final layer of flora. I chose to create images of flowers because their lifespan is short and is impacted by the environment they bloom in. There is an external beauty in flowers\, but also a beauty in the internal workings that we do not see\, allowing them to grow\, adapt and create food.  I believe that our lives and our sense of self are stitched together from the interactions and environments we have experienced and the actions we choose going forward. We are a quilt of our past and present\, the beautiful parts along with the torn and damaged. We can look for the beauty in the small moments and create change to improve our lives and that of others. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Project Localat theCaldwell-Lake George Library336 Canada StreetLake George\, NY518-668-2528\n  \nHours:Weekdays:  10:00 AM – 5:00 PMSaturdays: 10:00 AM – 2:00PM\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Ario Elami: Numinous Altars
DESCRIPTION:Ario Elami:  Numinous Altars\nMarch 12 through April 12\, 2025\nArtist’s ReceptionSaturday\, March 22nd4:00 – 6:00 PM\nNuminous: Something mysterious\, supernatural\, spiritual\, awe-inspiring\, and perhaps holy.\nAltar: A table\, as in early forms of architecture\, used as the focus for a religious ritual\, often for making offerings to a deity.\n \n \n \n \n \n Bio\nArio Elami\, is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts’ MFA program through Tufts University\, a composer\, author\, and artist whose work explores architecture as the tension between human design and nature. Claiming dual citizenship as an Iranian and North American\, he has spent much of his life on the east coast and in Michigan. \nElami works exclusively on paper in an often limited palette\, with the resulting works resembling prints or bookplates. They appear to be timeless\, as if found from a remote past in a secret library. Each piece resembles the type of anthropological or archeological drawings made to document temples\, palaces\, sacrificial sites\, or necropolises found in jungles\, and not fully understood by their discoverers. Elami\, in depicting undefined architectural sites of relics or ruins\, allows us to dream of uses both sacred and profane; to explore the tension between human design and nature on the verge of reclaiming its primacy. Elami’s latest art has developed in tandem with an understanding of the earliest architecture as numinous altars\, and a perception of nature as a roiling mass of aggressive life\, perpetuating itself through overabundance. In this vision\, architecture manifested out of violent\, spiritual rituals\, externalizing what is internal. Elami sees architecture\, revitalized with its primitive and mythopoeic qualities\, as a portal back to a cosmos overflowing with meaning and mystery. \n  \n \n LEARN MORE ABOUT ARIO ELAMI'S WORK\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Images from top\nWorld Machine III\, Colored Pencil\, pen and watercolor on paperWorld Machine II\, Colored Pencil\, pen\, and watercolor on paperTemple to a Fungal Spirit\, Colored pencil\, pen\, and watercolor on paper\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Courthouse Gallery\n1 Lower Amherst StreetLake George\, NY 12845518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PMSaturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PMSundays: 12:00 – 4:00 PM (June – September)Select Sundays Monthly (October – May)\nOr give us a call if you are in town. My work continues this tradition while speaking to contemporary concerns about presence and interaction. I rely on formal content – the meaning extends from color relationships and mark-making\, while engaging with feminist art’s tradition of challenging hierarchical distinctions between abstract and embodied experience. \nWhile the forms in my paintings and sculpture often echo natural and floral shapes\, they deliberately play with and subvert traditionally ‘feminine’ imagery. My sinuous lines and flower-like forms are exaggerated and transformed into something more ambiguous and challenging – sometimes even unsettling. My work takes stereotypically ‘feminine’ organic shapes and makes them monumental\, unavoidable\, and slightly alien. These forms don’t politely decorate – they command space and demand engagement. \nMy recent work explores the choreography of pattern and void. The pieces float and interact like notes in a visual score\, creating rhythms through both color and shape. While I embrace traditionally ‘feminine’ colors like pink\, I deliberately disrupt their sweetness by introducing structural elements and unexpected color combinations. The negative spaces become as important as the forms themselves\, turning the white wall into an active participant in the composition. This interplay between structure and fluidity\, presence and absence\, reflects my interest in how ‘feminine’ imagery can be both acknowledged and challenged within the same piece. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n My early training in dance continues to influence how I think about space\, movement\, and the body’s relationship to its position. Each installation becomes a kind of choreographed environment where forms perform in space\, creating temporal experiences that unfold as viewers move through them. The suspended pieces in particular engage in a slow dance with gravity\, while their shadows create an ever-changing performance on walls and floors. This understanding of movement and spatial relationships informs everything from my initial drawings to final installation decisions. \nBio\nAdria Arch is a mixed media artist living and working in Arlington\, Massachusetts. She is interested in creating immersive experiences with sculpture and paint\, using hand-cut or laser-cut lightweight polystyrene plastic to create sculptural forms that populate my large-scale colorful installations. Her work references the things seen every day- from neighborhood flower gardens to the ever-growing skyline of Boston. She has a vocabulary of shapes that includes ladders\, grids\, and spirals. The installations of hanging painted sculptures are whimsical\, playful spaces that provide an experience of both delight and surprise. \nArch has had solo exhibitions at Danforth Art in Framingham\, MA\, the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury\, MA\, and the Hunt Gallery at Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. She has completed site specific murals at Lesley University’s Porter Square building in Cambridge\, MA\, Stonehill College\, and Danforth Art in Framingham\, MA. Arch has been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center\, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts\, Sanskriti Foundation in Delhi\, and in Auvillar\, France. Her work is included in many private and public collections including the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum\, Fidelity Corporation\, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. In 2019 her work was featured at the Fitchburg Art Museum\, and in 2020 at the Cahoon Museum of American Art. Most recently\, Arch was commissioned by Google to do a room-sized installation. Arch showed installations at the Boston Sculptors Gallery\, Brattleboro Art Museum in Vermont and the Danforth Museum in Framingham\, MA. Her work will be on view at the San Luis Obispo Art Museum in 2025. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Images:Top: Detail\, Holding the Center 4\, 2025\, Acrylic on synthetic paper\, 8′ x 4′Right top:  Shape of Things\, 2025\, Acrylic on polystyreneRight bottom:  Holding the Center 4\, 2025\, Acrylic on synthetic paper\, 8′ x 4′

Their multimedia artworks invite viewers to explore the visible\, hidden\, and symbolic aspects of natural beauty found in aquatic environments. Each artist expresses ideas of interconnection between organisms within ecosystems through imagery such as grids\, nets\, and repeating patterns. \nThis idea for this curated exhibition was conceived after visual artist Lauren Comito received a Community Art Grant from the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council in 2025. The New York City and Huletts Landing-based visual artist used this grant to examine and portray copepods\, tiny crustacean zooplankton\, along with aquatic plants found in Lake George\, bringing to light the interconnected systems that contribute to the purity of the lake. \nComito enlarges the scale of these microscopic organisms through cyanotype prints\, making them visible. The images reveal the delicate and intricate structures of these tiny creatures that play an essential role in filtering and purifying the water\, elevating them to the status of “guardians of the lake.” \nMilcah Bassel\, whose work has been exhibited at the Rubin Museum of Art\, Bronx Museum of the Arts\, and other venues both nationally and internationally\, applies unique materials and processes to explore both cultural and natural structures. Her pieces in the exhibition are inspired by the use of a grid to represent water in ancient civilizations\, creating intersecting rippling patterns on unique pulp papers. \nAmanda Thackray\, who is currently the inaugural Environmental Protection Agency Artist in Residence for the lower Passaic River in New Jersey\, also utilizes grid patterns in handmade paper designs that combine notions of nature\, industry\, and human experience. Her netlike imagery is a malleable grid referencing both organic material and human intervention within an environment. \nBrooklyn-based artist and wildlife rehabilitator Rachel Frank employs various material processes\, including ceramics\, fabric\, and drawing. The material transformations that occur in the art-making process mirror the restorative processes that take place in the healing of lives and habitats. The repeating patterns in her work express the interconnections and exchanges between species. \nImages:Top: Lauren Comito\, PostcardMiddle left:  Rachel Frank\, Wading Foot Tangle (detail)\, 2024\, Ink\, watercolor\, and pigment on paper\, 11″ x 15″Middle right: Milcah Bassel\, Untitled (detail)\, 2024\, Color pencil on black Fabriano paper\, 9″ x 12″ \n
