SUMMARY:Ghost Town Blues Band
DESCRIPTION:Ghost Town Blues Band\n\n\nRecently headlining the blues stage at The Montreal Jazz Festival and appearing at The Lucerne Blues Festival in Switzerland\, Beale Street’s latest success story\, Tennessee Music Award Winner\, 5-time Blues Blast Music Award Nominee and International Blues Challenge Runner-up is Ghost Town Blues Band. Not your grandpa’s blues band\, their live show has been captivating audiences in the U.S.\, Canada and Europe with their “second-line horn entrance\,” cigar box guitars and electric push brooms to Allman Brothers style jams. \nThe band’s stage show and energy is unparalleled and has been called the best new\, live blues shows in the world. \nHorns\, harmonies and homegrown instruments combined with an energetic and roots rich festival set makes Ghost Town Blues Band one of the “must see live bands on the festival scene today.” Both Garrett Marshall behind the drums and Matt Karner on the bass guitar are a punishing rhythm section behind multi-instrumentalist/frontman Matt Isbell with raunchy cigar box guitar licks and raspy “Dr. John-like\, whiskey and gravel-soaked vocals.” With the addition of Grayson Smith on B3\, the grooves go from fresh to funky as the band gains more notoriety in the blues festival and Roots circuit. Ghost Town Blues Band has performed all across US\, Europe and Canada at over 175+ festivals and will announce almost a half-dozen international tours in 2026. \nGTBB’s new album Shine debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “GTBB shows what can happen when the past is distilled through young sensibilities\, voices\, and instruments. SUMMARY:Oobleck
DESCRIPTION:Oobleck\n\n\nOobleck is a high-octane\, five-piece funk band that’s been playing around the Capital Region\, Hudson Valley\, and Vermont since 2008. They play grungy original horn funk inspired by the after-dark variety of New Orleans street music. It’s a melee of horns\, super heavy drums and bass\, and your favorite type of chunky guitar riffing that leaves your bum shaking and your face grinning. \n \nHighly improvised\, kinetic\, effect-soaked horns create textural soundscapes with razor sharp horn lines. The vibe is high-energy and dance-focused – the rhythm section interlocked and syncopated\, keeping us in the pocket and the dancers moving.   \n \nInvoking the spirit of ’70’s electric experimental jazz pioneers like Dizzy Gillespie\, Cannonball Adderly\, Donald Byrd\, and Herbie Hancock and bringing in harder-modern avant-funk influences like Galactic\, Budos Band\, and sax virtuoso Skerik\, Oobleck delivers a one of a kind sound and energy not matched by many in the local scene.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “Sometimes they pump out the stone-cold soul-funk of the JBs. And sometimes…they head off into Frank Zappa’s Grand Wazoo territory.” – Nippertown \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THEIR MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Oobleck @ Lark Hall\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Oobleck\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Listen to Oobleck on YouTube Music

SUMMARY:Sara Milonovich & Daisycutter
DESCRIPTION:Sara Milonovich & Daisycutter\n\n\n\n“I’ve never gone into the studio with a road map\,” says Sara\, a seasoned side musician to such artists as Richard Shindell\, Pete Seeger\, Eliza Gilkyson\, and Jim Gaudet and the Railroad Boys\, and a featured player in the recent smash Broadway musical Come From Away. “Making an album has always been more like a circuitous voyage.” \nSara’s own voyage starts in the bucolic agrarian area of northeast upstate New York — the name of the song that gives Northeast its title is no accident — where she was raised on her family’s working farm and exposed to earthy music at a young age via her parents’ record collection and her grandparents’ efforts in organizing local bluegrass concerts. Having started on violin at age four\, by age nine she was already leading her own band and enjoying a rising regional reputation as a top-flight fiddler. “It was a very welcoming scene\,” says Sara\, who released a live cassette when she was 12. “If you could play\, you were accepted. I learned a lot\, playing standards like ‘Tennessee Waltz’ and ‘Faded Love’ at grange halls and dances. I loved how those songs could tell stories and make people dance.” \nAt 16\, Sara dropped out of school and joined legendary upstate Celtic bluegrass outfit the McKrells\, recording two albums with the group and touring the U.S. and Ireland. “It was the best road education I could’ve asked for\,” she recalls about her McKrells tenure. “They’re all world-class pickers\, they have well-crafted songs\, and they really know how to hold a room. They taught me a lot.” Between accompanying other mentors — including Seeger\, on his Grammy-winning 2008 album At 89 — she made her solo debut with 2009’s Daisycutter\, a disc whose moniker eventually became that of her band. After an eye-opening 2011 tour with the U.S. State Department-/Jazz at Lincoln Center-sponsored “Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad” revue that took her to Kosovo\, Bulgaria\, Moldova\, and Turkey\, she and Daisycutter recorded 2015’s Waiting for the Stars. The acclaimed disc earned her enthusiastic reviews and comparisons to paragons like Shawn Colvin and Sheryl Crow \nLike Waiting for the Stars\, Northeast was produced by Daisycutter guitarist Greg Anderson. But while its predecessor has more experimental touches\, the new album is more direct\, more stripped down\, more driving — more Milonovich\, really. \n“It was [Bob Dylan/Levon Helm sideman] Larry Campbell who first brought Sara into my studio\,” says Grammy-winning engineer and Hot Tuna drummer Justin Guip\, who recorded\, mixed\, and plays on Northeast. “Being in the band and getting to know the songs from the inside\, I felt like I was really able to get to the core of her music. This album has a lot of moods: some swampy\, spooky stuff\, some upbeat pop\, some alt-country stuff. Whenever I listen to it\, what really hits me is how much Sara stands out\, as both a musician and a songwriter. That’s a pretty rare thing.” \n“When people hear Northeast\, I hope they feel connected to what they’re hearing\,” says Sara\, who was named 2022 Americana Artist of the Year by the Capital District Thomas Edison Music Awards (AKA the Eddies). “Like their stories are being written and sung through mine. We’ve all got stories to tell.” \nSo true. If only we all could tell them in the beautiful\, moving\, and melodic ways that Sara Milonovich does. Luckily\, until that day comes\, we have Northeast as our traveling companion. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Write what you know. SUMMARY:Hayden Clay Williams presents "Clear Boundaries"
DESCRIPTION:Digital artist Hayden Clay Williams will present a new group of works from his series “The Suburbs\,” in which suburban life in the U.S. is examined through a surrealist lens. Using 3D rendering software\, the artist creates elaborately detailed scenes of suburban sprawl centered on bizarre arrangements of cookie-cutter houses. Channeling both the Belgian surrealist Rene Magritte and the filmmaker David Lynch\, Williams’ scenes are bathed in a glaring\, bright daylight that underscores the equally familiar and strange rules and rituals of modern homeownership. In the artist’s words\, “I’m particularly interested in blurring the line between dreams and reality\, creating sensations of strange tranquility.” The artist has noted elsewhere that there are “a lot of interesting stories to be told about the suburbs\,” and his method of sharing them is by first removing all visual traces of people\, pets\, and cars\, so that houses\, yards\, streets\, and sidewalks become the protagonists of his narrative. \nBio\nHayden Clay is a visual artist currently living and working in Frederick\, Maryland (USA). His practice centers around 3D digital art\, through which he creates surreal visual worlds that blur the boundaries between dreams and reality. His imagery is marked by a clean\, minimal aesthetic\, where simple natural elements are transformed into poetic\, otherworldly scenes. \nClay combines technical precision with emotionally resonant visual language. His use of pastel tones\, soft lighting\, and organic compositions evokes a meditative atmosphere. Many of his works move between utopia and dystopia\, between digital simulation and the familiarity of memory. He draws inspiration from nature\, childhood recollections\, and everyday sensory experiences—such as the warmth of sunlight on skin or the smell of freshly cut grass. \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s ReceptionSaturday\, May 16th4:00 – 6:00 PM\n \n Click Here\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Courthouse Gallery\n1 Lower Amherst StreetLake George\, NY 12845518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PMSaturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THANK YOU!\n \n \n \n \n \n Throughout the year\, we offer 17 exhibitions of work by emerging and established artists in our Courthouse Gallery and in partner locations throughoutLake George. \nWe are able to do this because of the support of our sponsors and LGAP members.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This program is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

SUMMARY:Seth Butler: Mending the Path
DESCRIPTION:Seth Butler:  Mending the PathMarch 11 through April 11\, 2026\nArtist’s ReceptionSaturday\, March 14th4:00 – 6:00 PM\n \n \n \n \n \n Artist’s Statement\nI paint surrealistic landscapes\, using photographs as only a touchstone from which to branch out\, and creatively interpret what the imagination sees. As I dip my toes into fantasy realms\, reality is never a safety net\, but just the bottom of the creative swimming pool. I take the viewer and myself floating to the surface\, as I seek not only to show the surface beauty of the natural world\, but also its timeless and bold nature. To stop\, breathe\, and reflect on the mystery of nature is to reinvigorate our intent\, and reflect personal restoration. As I extend the space of possibilities\, the act of such is merely a reflection of the natural worldliving simply. \nBio\nSeth Butler is a fine artist based in Upstate New York\, specializing in capturing contemporary landscape and fantasy scenes in bold color and decisive markings and patterns. American\, born in 1974\, Mr. Butler attended the UAlbany MFA program\, where his work spun off of fantasy subjects\, embracing landscape as a  conduit of information and the basis of future work\, without forgetting that creative interpretation as the vehicle to steer. \nMr. Butler works primarily in oil\, in a range of dimensions. He is currently working from a collection of nature photos taken on serene nature walks in Upstate NY. Color and shadow are accentuated to explore the abstraction of form combined with not-so-obvious color choices. The landscape sets the table at its base\,   allowing for new language toemerge. \nThe artist is inspired by Edvard Munch and Pierre Bonnard\, to name a few\, and by contemporaries such as Peter Doig and Shara Hughes. He is seeking a mutual conversation that welcomes all perspectives. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Top: (Detail)  Music is Outside\, 2025\, Oil\, 22″ x 28″Above: Trail with Dad\, 2024\, Oil\, 22″ x 28″Rolling Hills\, 2021\, Giclee Print\, 30″ x 40″Rejuvenation/Rocks are My Guide\, 2026\,Oil\, 30″ x 40″\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Courthouse Gallery\n1 Lower Amherst StreetLake George\, NY 12845518-668-2616\nHours: Wednesday – Friday: 12:00 – 5:00 PMSaturday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM\nOr give us a call if you are in town. The allure in our everyday surroundings is revealed in my work through an intimate and systematic interpretation of color\, space\, and time. \nBIO \nRichard Garrison received his BS in Studio Art from the College of Saint Rose\, Albany\, NY in 1993 and a MFA from Cornell University\, Ithaca\, NY in 1995. SUMMARY:David Gilmore Quartet
DESCRIPTION:About David Gilmore\nOver the past decade guitarist and composer David Gilmore has recorded and performed with some of the most highly influential and innovative artists in modern music today including Wayne Shorter\, Dave Douglas\, Muhal Richard Abrams\, Sam Rivers\, Steve Coleman\, Don Byron\, Cassandra Wilson\, Uri Caine\, Randy Brecker and David Sanborn. He has appeared on over 50 recordings and been a major presence on the international touring scene. In the Spring of 2001 he released his first recording as a leader entitled Ritualism\, which has already received major international critical appraise and was nominated for Debut CD of the Year in 2001 by the Jazz Journalists Association. Mr. Gilmore was also recently voted into the Rising Stars category in DownBeat Magazine’s Critic’s Poll. \nBorn and raised in Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, Gilmore sought out music at a young age experimenting with piano\, drums and percussion before discovering the guitar at the age of 15. After a few years of private study with Boston local guitar gurus John Baboian and Randy Roos\, Gilmore moved to New York to attend New York University\, where he studied under the tutelage of sax titan Joe Lovano and pianist Jim McNeely. Shortly after his graduation in 1987\, Gilmore began touring and recording in earnest with many of the members of the fledging M-Base Collective\, and soon after began to find himself in many other diverse musical situations\, recording and/ or touring with Ronald Shannon Jackson\, Trilok Gurtu\, Graham Haynes\, Robin Eubanks\, and Lonnie Plaxico. In the early 1990’s he became an active member of the popular jazz/fusion group Lost Tribe\, co-producing their first two recordings for the Windham Hill Label. \nOver the years he has also lent his skills to a variety of pop/ commercial acts including Japan’s Monday Michiru\, Me’shell N’Degeocello\, Melissa Etheridge\, Joan Osbourne\, Mavis Staples\, Issac Hayes\, Boz Scaggs\, Tommy Lang of Austria\, Rise Robots Rise\, and toured extensively with multi-platinum selling artist Joss Stone. In 1995 Gilmore got the call to join sax legend Wayne Shorter’s group\, and appears on Mr. Shorter’s Grammy Award winning album\, High Life on Verve. He can be found most recently on recordings by Christian McBride\, Carolyn Leonhart\, Don Byron\, Ron Blake and Uri Caine. \nAs a composer\, improviser and guitarist\, Gilmore is committed to pushing the boundaries of improvisational music\, at the same time without alienating the uninitiated listener. His music reflects the diverse musical influences and experiences he has assimilated throughout his career. The exploration of rhythm is a major component of his music\, utilizing many non-Western approaches and integrating them into a modern framework. Gilmore was a recipient of the Chamber Music America New Works Composer Grant\, enabling him to compose a commisioned work entitled “African Continuum” which was performed in public in the Spring and Fall of 2003. His playing has been compared to guitarists with styles as diverse as George Benson\, Wes Montgomery\, Jimi Hendrix and Leo Nocentelli. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n David Gilmore – guitarLuis Perdomo – pianoBrad Jones- bassE.J. SUMMARY:Edmar Castañeda Quartet
DESCRIPTION:About Edmar Castañeda\nEdmar Castañeda nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category “Best Latin Jazz Album” with his album Family.  \nUpon arriving in the United States in 1994\, Colombian-born Edmar Castañeda has made a name for himself as the preeminent jazz harp virtuoso. Castañeda brings forth a brilliance that beautifully merges the jazz tradition with a diverse set of styles and genres while bringing unbridled attention to a somewhat unfamiliar instrument: the harp. Singlehandedly\, Castañeda has cemented the harp’s place in jazz with innovative technique and heartfelt creativity from a wealth of formidable collaborations with music titans such as Wynyton Marsalis\, Bela Fleck\, John Scofield\, Ricki Lee Jones\, Hiromi\, Pedrito Martinez\, Marcus Miller\, Gonzalo Rubalcaba\, Ivan Lins\, The Yellowjackets\, Paco De Lucia\, and Paquito D’Rivera.  \nIn the same breath as the Yo-Yo Ma’s of the world\, Castañeda fearlessly stuns audiences\, musicians\, and critics alike with his incredible talents as a player and composer. NPR’s “Fresh Air” touts\, “…his technique is the real astonishment. Castañeda juggles lead\, rhythm and bass lines\, using a variety of hard and soft string attacks to keep those voices distinct — all without giving up the groove…His amazing technique…raises the bar for every harpist.” The New York Times notes\, “…Castaneda… engage[s] modern jazz in ways that honor…cultural origins\, and [he has] the capacity to astonish by virtue of [his] fingerstyle technique.” Moses Sumney highlights his “5 Favorite NPR “Tiny Desk Concerts” and says\, “My brain cracked open when I first saw this. Some classical instruments are so ingrained in our heads for sounding one way; Edmar restructures what we know of harp\, defiantly expanding the bounds of the instrument.”  \nCastañeda follows up seven acclaimed albums (Cuarto de Colores; Entre Cuerdas; Double Portion; Live at the Jazz Standard; Live In Montreal; Harp vs. Harp; Family ) with his latest recording project\, Viento Sur\, with a nine-person ensemble of acclaimed global musicians from Switzerland\, Brazil\, Cuba\, Israel\, Chile\, USA\, Argentina\, and Colombia. An array of compositions on Viento Sur are commissioned by American Chamber Music from the “New Jazz Works Grant.”  \nCastañeda’s renowned albums as a bandleader are interchanged with awe-inspiring symphonic and bigband works likes Wynton Marsalis Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, Clássica de Espinho and the São Paulo Jazz Symphony Orchestra\, and chamber pieces for the Israel Camerata Jerusalem and the Orquestra Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia. \nIn fall 2021\, Castañeda’s work was released in Disney’s Encanto\, which features original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Castañeda acts on the soundtrack and served as music consultant on Encanto.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HIS MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Béla Fleck & Edmar Castañeda: Live at Big Ears Festival 2019 | JAZZ NIGHT IN AMERICA\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Live Sessions from Jazz at Lincoln Center: Edmar Castañeda\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Edmar Castañeda

It includes original compositions by trumpet player Terry Gordon and guitarist Roger Noyes. \nIn March 2013 the band was named Best Local Jazz Band in the Metroland Readers Poll and embarked on a tour of Egypt\, performing at the Cairo Jazz Festival and other gigs. The trip was sponsored by the educational organization AMIDEAST\, the U.S. Embassy Cairo\, and the Center for American Studies at the American University in Cairo. That same year\, the band opened up for Charlie Hunter and Oleta Adams at the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival. Drawing from their experiences in Egypt\, the group\, in October 2014\, released a 9-song sophomore album\, Blues For Soli (also on WEPA Records)\, which includes a suite of music directly influenced by their Egypt tour. In a review of the album for Metroland\, Jeff Nania writes: “This record serves to showcase the evolution of a local group’s compositional style as they continue to go beyond bop and incorporate further cultural influences into their sound.” \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “The trio\, though named after the spaghetti Western film persona\, was the real deal. SUMMARY:Alfredo Rodríguez Trio
DESCRIPTION:About Alfredo\n\n\n\nGlobally acclaimed artist Alfredo Rodriguez has announced his new album Coral Way will be released on August 18 via Mack Avenue Records. The album embodies the collective sound of Miami: a blend of Latin pop\, timba\, salsa\, bachata\, tango\, reggaeton\, and bolero. Reminiscent of the city’s diverse Latino community\, the album calls upon Rodriguez’s roots just as much as his newly-learned experiences.  \nIn his new home\, Rodriguez took note of the limited cross-pollination and few collaborations that existed between mainstream Latin music and Latin jazz. Coral Way\, which features guest vocalists Cimafunk and Alana Sinkëy\, serves as the connective tissue between these worlds—an artistic statement for the diverse Latin community to be seen\, be heard\, and take pride in their history\, while creating community through individuality. \nRodriguez notes\, “I play what I live\, and Coral Way is my new life. It is the name of the street on which\, for the past 3 years\, I have been composing this album\, and now I’m excited that people from all over the world will finally get to hear it in an expansive way\, with a full live band.” \nBorn and raised in Havana\, Cuba\, Rodriguez’s world was confined by the numerous restrictions imposed by his country. With limited options\, his parents enrolled him in a classical conservatory\, but he was quickly shut down by his first teacher who declared him devoid of talent. Despite pushback\, his love for piano grew so strong that he wasn’t even deterred by not having a piano to practice on at home; instead\, he painted piano keys on his parents’ dinner table so he could run his scales. \nIn 2006\, at age 19\, he received an invitation to represent Cuba at the Montreux Jazz Festival (MJF) in the International Solo Piano Competition. After applying and auditioning as a composer\, alongside twelve of the top pianists in the world\, he was accepted and made his way to Switzerland\, where he ended up being invited to festival founder Claude Nobs’ chalet to play for the guests\, one of whom happened to be legendary producer Quincy Jones. Upon Jones’ return to Los Angeles\, he couldn’t get Alfredo out of his mind. He called his VP\, Adam Fell\, and explained that Alfredo was one of the best pianists he had ever seen and they needed to work with him. Little did they know\, Alfredo had only received permission to travel to Switzerland to play in the competition (as it was difficult for Cubans to obtain a travel visa)\, and also learned it would be illegal to work with him due to the Cuban embargo. \nCubans were not allowed to work in the U.S.\, and could only arrive at U.S. border stations to seek political asylum—meaning that Alfredo would have to relinquish his Cuban citizenship and jeopardize his ability to return home until he obtained a green card. After a year and a half of contemplating\, he mustered up the courage and made the difficult decision to leave his family behind for a country that could offer him the platform he needed to share the broader message of his music with more people. \nIt’s evident the journey was worth it because not only has Alfredo earned frequent appearances on prestigious stages around the world such as the Playboy Jazz Festival\, North Sea Jazz Festival\, Jazz in Marciac\, Umbria Jazz and \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJazz A Vienne\, but additionally\, Rodriguez was nominated for a Grammy® in the category of “Best Arrangement\, Instrumental or A Cappella\,” for the track “Guantanamera\,” from his album\, The Invasion Parade. Additionally\, during his first tour in China\, Rodriguez was asked to work with Tan Dun\, Siedah Garrett\, and Quincy Jones to compose the English version of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo theme song\, becoming the first non-Chinese artist to be bestowed this honor. He’s also been featured over the years by All Things Considered\, Downbeat\, The New York Times\, Los Angeles Times\, and Wall Street Journal among many others\, and performed for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert. \nRodriguez continues to share his music along with his impactful message of perseverance and cross culturalization on an international tour\, while sharing a variety of viral social media videos in which he plays well-known compositions in a Cuban timba style. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Alfredo Rodriguez – Piano\nHan Beyli – Bass\nArmando Lopez – Drums\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HIS MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Alfredo Rodriguez Trio | Live on KUVO!\n \n \n \n \n \n Alfredo Rodríguez Trio: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Alfredo Rodríguez

SUMMARY:Lucía
DESCRIPTION:About Lucía\n\n\n\n\nThree years ago\, 23-year-old singer Lucía was a finalist at the prestigious Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition – and the first Mexican artist to enter the contest. When it came time to select the song that she would perform in the final round\, she picked a standard that reflected her musical sensibility\, colored in equal parts by the beauty of jazz and the Latin American songbook. \n“We played ‘What a Difference a Day Makes\,’ which was popularized by Dinah Washington\, but in its initial incarnation was a bolero written in Spanish by María Grever\,” she says from her home in New York City. “We started it as a jazz ballad in English\, then switched to Spanish and added some zapateado dancing. My mother arrived with a contingent of fellow Mexicans to cheer me on. She told me that being able to sing in Spanish while dancing was what made me different from everyone else.” \nLucía won the competition\, and the fact that she did it with such a soulful\, multicultural rendition of a jazz standard also marked her arrival on the music scene. “What a Difference a Day Makes” is now the opening cut of the self-titled Lucía\, an exquisite debut album that showcases the luminous qualities of her voice\, and her superb technique and versatility. \nFrom her velvety reading of McCoy Tyner and Sammy Cahn’s “You Taught My Heart To Sing” and an achingly vulnerable cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Lacy” to a mournful “Alfonsina y el Mar” and a version of “Veracruz” that brims with Lucía’s Mexican pride\, the album finds the emerging singer surrounded by a cadre of jazz virtuosos: Venezuelan pianist Edward Simon\, American double-bassist Larry Grenadier\, Mexican drummer Antonio Sánchez\, and Puerto Rican saxophonist David Sánchez. The session was helmed by visionary producer Matt Pierson\, known for his work with legends such as Brad Mehldau\, Milton Nascimento and Samara Joy. \n\n\n\n\nHer innate talent was nurtured from a very young age. Born in Veracruz\, Lucía Gutiérrez Rebolloso began performing at age two\, together with her parents Laura Rebolloso and Ramón Gutiérrez and their acclaimed Son de Madera\, a son jarocho ensemble. She grew up surrounded by fandangos and the son jarocho community\, and is also the niece of Quetzal Flores\, founder of the Los Angeles-based Chicano rock band Quetzal. Most importantly\, Lucía’s parents played many records at home – from the salsa nuggets of El Gran Combo to the Latin folk of Mercedes Sosa and the healing Soul sides of Aretha Franklin. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lucía – vocals \nGabriel Chakarji  – piano\nGuillermo Lopez – bass\nJullian Miltenberg – drums\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HER MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Full Performance at Joe’s Pub on January 9th\, 2025\nJoe’s Pub is a program of The Public Theater and named for its founder Joseph Papp\, opened in 1998 and plays a vital role in The Public’s mission of supporting young artists while providing established artists with an intimate space to perform and develop new work. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Lucía

SUMMARY:Matt Wilson's Honey & Salt
DESCRIPTION:About Matt Wilson\nFew musicians embody the spontaneous energy of jazz like Matt Wilson. The New York-based drummer combines buoyant zeal\, idiosyncratic style\, infectious humor\, joyous swing and an indomitable spirit of surprise. Together\, with his universally recognized personal warmth\, these qualities have made Wilson one of the most in-demand players and educators on the modern jazz scene\, both beloved and respected by his peers\, elders and students. Not bad for a mischievous Midwestern boy from Knoxville\, Illinois. \nWhether anchoring an all-star group at the White House\, juggling tricky rhythmic swerves with his own quartets\, celebrating the holidays with his Christmas Tree-O\, exploring the poetry of Carl Sandburg\, sensitively supporting vocalists such as Dena DeRose\, presenting concerts at a neighborhood church or donning a superhero cape to inspire young musicians to embrace their individuality\, Wilson approaches music as a man on a mission: fostering a lively and passionate connection between music and people\, whether they be playing or listening to it. \nWilson has released thirteen albums as a leader. His latest recording\, Honey And Salt (Music Inspired By The Poetry Of Carl Sandburg)\, was recognized on over thirty worldwide “Best of 2017” lists\, including Top Ten in the National Public Radio Critics Poll\, JazzTimes\, Irish Times\, Boston Globe\, Jazziz and All About Jazz. The album received a coveted 5-star review (masterpiece) in DownBeat. On his previous album\, Beginning of a Memory (Palmetto)\, Wilson brought the musical and the personal together like never before\, uniting the members of all his ensembles into one aptly-named Big Happy Family to celebrate the life of his wife Felicia\, who lost her battle with leukemia in June 2014. This profound\, yet playful\, release also received a 5-star review in DownBeat and was selected as one of the top releases of 2016 by numerous publications\, including DownBeat\, JazzTimes and slate.com. It also cracked the Top Ten of the NPR Critics Poll. Wilson has made thirteen recordings as a leader for Palmetto Records since 1996\, including acclaimed releases by the Matt Wilson Quartet\, Arts & Crafts and the Christmas Tree-O. \nHe’s also co-led another dozen albums\, including duo outings with Lee Konitz and Steve Beresford\, Sifter (a trio with Mary Halvorson and Kirk Knuffke)\, MOB Trio and the acclaimed Trio M with his alliterative partner\, Myra Melford\, and Mark Dresser. And that’s only a drop in the proverbial bucket (and Matt has almost surely played a bucket or two\, proverbial and otherwise\, over the course of his career) in the context of an impressive discography that finds his distinctive style on more than 400 albums. SUMMARY:Angelina & JP at the Inn of Lake George
DESCRIPTION:Angelina & JP\n\n\nAngelina & JP are a musical duo from opposite ends of New York’s Capital Region\, brought together by a shared love of all things music. Angelina Valente studied Musical Theatre\, while JP Hubbs focused on Piano – but their paths crossed in 2017 when they both joined an eight-piece bluegrass band. What started as a big group collaboration quickly revealed a deeper musical connection and a desire to explore more as a duo. \nTogether\, they dive into jazz standards\, discover fresh takes on the genre\, and write originals. But what really sets them apart is their knack for reimagining unexpected tunes—songs you’d never think of as jazz—infusing them with swing\, soul\, and style that’s entirely their own. \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Inn of Lake George\n12 McGillis Ave.Lake George\, NY 12845518.668.4442 \nThe Lobby Bar is a classic\, intimate cocktail lounge offering a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy handcrafted cocktails.
