SUMMARY:David Gilmore Quartet
DESCRIPTION:About David Gilmore\nOver the past decade guitarist and composer David Gilmore has recorded and performed with some of the most highly influential and innovative artists in modern music today including Wayne Shorter\, Dave Douglas\, Muhal Richard Abrams\, Sam Rivers\, Steve Coleman\, Don Byron\, Cassandra Wilson\, Uri Caine\, Randy Brecker and David Sanborn. He has appeared on over 50 recordings and been a major presence on the international touring scene. In the Spring of 2001 he released his first recording as a leader entitled Ritualism\, which has already received major international critical appraise and was nominated for Debut CD of the Year in 2001 by the Jazz Journalists Association. Mr. Gilmore was also recently voted into the Rising Stars category in DownBeat Magazine’s Critic’s Poll. \nBorn and raised in Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, Gilmore sought out music at a young age experimenting with piano\, drums and percussion before discovering the guitar at the age of 15. After a few years of private study with Boston local guitar gurus John Baboian and Randy Roos\, Gilmore moved to New York to attend New York University\, where he studied under the tutelage of sax titan Joe Lovano and pianist Jim McNeely. Shortly after his graduation in 1987\, Gilmore began touring and recording in earnest with many of the members of the fledging M-Base Collective\, and soon after began to find himself in many other diverse musical situations\, recording and/ or touring with Ronald Shannon Jackson\, Trilok Gurtu\, Graham Haynes\, Robin Eubanks\, and Lonnie Plaxico. In the early 1990’s he became an active member of the popular jazz/fusion group Lost Tribe\, co-producing their first two recordings for the Windham Hill Label. \nOver the years he has also lent his skills to a variety of pop/ commercial acts including Japan’s Monday Michiru\, Me’shell N’Degeocello\, Melissa Etheridge\, Joan Osbourne\, Mavis Staples\, Issac Hayes\, Boz Scaggs\, Tommy Lang of Austria\, Rise Robots Rise\, and toured extensively with multi-platinum selling artist Joss Stone. In 1995 Gilmore got the call to join sax legend Wayne Shorter’s group\, and appears on Mr. Shorter’s Grammy Award winning album\, High Life on Verve. He can be found most recently on recordings by Christian McBride\, Carolyn Leonhart\, Don Byron\, Ron Blake and Uri Caine. \nAs a composer\, improviser and guitarist\, Gilmore is committed to pushing the boundaries of improvisational music\, at the same time without alienating the uninitiated listener. His music reflects the diverse musical influences and experiences he has assimilated throughout his career. The exploration of rhythm is a major component of his music\, utilizing many non-Western approaches and integrating them into a modern framework. Gilmore was a recipient of the Chamber Music America New Works Composer Grant\, enabling him to compose a commisioned work entitled “African Continuum” which was performed in public in the Spring and Fall of 2003. His playing has been compared to guitarists with styles as diverse as George Benson\, Wes Montgomery\, Jimi Hendrix and Leo Nocentelli. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n David Gilmore – guitarLuis Perdomo – pianoBrad Jones- bassE.J. SUMMARY:Edmar Castañeda Quartet
DESCRIPTION:About Edmar Castañeda\nEdmar Castañeda nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category “Best Latin Jazz Album” with his album Family.  \nUpon arriving in the United States in 1994\, Colombian-born Edmar Castañeda has made a name for himself as the preeminent jazz harp virtuoso. Castañeda brings forth a brilliance that beautifully merges the jazz tradition with a diverse set of styles and genres while bringing unbridled attention to a somewhat unfamiliar instrument: the harp. Singlehandedly\, Castañeda has cemented the harp’s place in jazz with innovative technique and heartfelt creativity from a wealth of formidable collaborations with music titans such as Wynyton Marsalis\, Bela Fleck\, John Scofield\, Ricki Lee Jones\, Hiromi\, Pedrito Martinez\, Marcus Miller\, Gonzalo Rubalcaba\, Ivan Lins\, The Yellowjackets\, Paco De Lucia\, and Paquito D’Rivera.  \nIn the same breath as the Yo-Yo Ma’s of the world\, Castañeda fearlessly stuns audiences\, musicians\, and critics alike with his incredible talents as a player and composer. NPR’s “Fresh Air” touts\, “…his technique is the real astonishment. Castañeda juggles lead\, rhythm and bass lines\, using a variety of hard and soft string attacks to keep those voices distinct — all without giving up the groove…His amazing technique…raises the bar for every harpist.” The New York Times notes\, “…Castaneda… engage[s] modern jazz in ways that honor…cultural origins\, and [he has] the capacity to astonish by virtue of [his] fingerstyle technique.” Moses Sumney highlights his “5 Favorite NPR “Tiny Desk Concerts” and says\, “My brain cracked open when I first saw this. Some classical instruments are so ingrained in our heads for sounding one way; Edmar restructures what we know of harp\, defiantly expanding the bounds of the instrument.”  \nCastañeda follows up seven acclaimed albums (Cuarto de Colores; Entre Cuerdas; Double Portion; Live at the Jazz Standard; Live In Montreal; Harp vs. Harp; Family ) with his latest recording project\, Viento Sur\, with a nine-person ensemble of acclaimed global musicians from Switzerland\, Brazil\, Cuba\, Israel\, Chile\, USA\, Argentina\, and Colombia. An array of compositions on Viento Sur are commissioned by American Chamber Music from the “New Jazz Works Grant.”  \nCastañeda’s renowned albums as a bandleader are interchanged with awe-inspiring symphonic and bigband works likes Wynton Marsalis Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, Clássica de Espinho and the São Paulo Jazz Symphony Orchestra\, and chamber pieces for the Israel Camerata Jerusalem and the Orquestra Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia. \nIn fall 2021\, Castañeda’s work was released in Disney’s Encanto\, which features original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Castañeda acts on the soundtrack and served as music consultant on Encanto.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HIS MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Béla Fleck & Edmar Castañeda: Live at Big Ears Festival 2019 | JAZZ NIGHT IN AMERICA\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Live Sessions from Jazz at Lincoln Center: Edmar Castañeda\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Edmar Castañeda

SUMMARY:Alfredo Rodríguez Trio
DESCRIPTION:About Alfredo\n\n\n\nGlobally acclaimed artist Alfredo Rodriguez has announced his new album Coral Way will be released on August 18 via Mack Avenue Records. The album embodies the collective sound of Miami: a blend of Latin pop\, timba\, salsa\, bachata\, tango\, reggaeton\, and bolero. Reminiscent of the city’s diverse Latino community\, the album calls upon Rodriguez’s roots just as much as his newly-learned experiences.  \nIn his new home\, Rodriguez took note of the limited cross-pollination and few collaborations that existed between mainstream Latin music and Latin jazz. Coral Way\, which features guest vocalists Cimafunk and Alana Sinkëy\, serves as the connective tissue between these worlds—an artistic statement for the diverse Latin community to be seen\, be heard\, and take pride in their history\, while creating community through individuality. \nRodriguez notes\, “I play what I live\, and Coral Way is my new life. It is the name of the street on which\, for the past 3 years\, I have been composing this album\, and now I’m excited that people from all over the world will finally get to hear it in an expansive way\, with a full live band.” \nBorn and raised in Havana\, Cuba\, Rodriguez’s world was confined by the numerous restrictions imposed by his country. With limited options\, his parents enrolled him in a classical conservatory\, but he was quickly shut down by his first teacher who declared him devoid of talent. Despite pushback\, his love for piano grew so strong that he wasn’t even deterred by not having a piano to practice on at home; instead\, he painted piano keys on his parents’ dinner table so he could run his scales. \nIn 2006\, at age 19\, he received an invitation to represent Cuba at the Montreux Jazz Festival (MJF) in the International Solo Piano Competition. After applying and auditioning as a composer\, alongside twelve of the top pianists in the world\, he was accepted and made his way to Switzerland\, where he ended up being invited to festival founder Claude Nobs’ chalet to play for the guests\, one of whom happened to be legendary producer Quincy Jones. Upon Jones’ return to Los Angeles\, he couldn’t get Alfredo out of his mind. He called his VP\, Adam Fell\, and explained that Alfredo was one of the best pianists he had ever seen and they needed to work with him. Little did they know\, Alfredo had only received permission to travel to Switzerland to play in the competition (as it was difficult for Cubans to obtain a travel visa)\, and also learned it would be illegal to work with him due to the Cuban embargo. \nCubans were not allowed to work in the U.S.\, and could only arrive at U.S. border stations to seek political asylum—meaning that Alfredo would have to relinquish his Cuban citizenship and jeopardize his ability to return home until he obtained a green card. After a year and a half of contemplating\, he mustered up the courage and made the difficult decision to leave his family behind for a country that could offer him the platform he needed to share the broader message of his music with more people. \nIt’s evident the journey was worth it because not only has Alfredo earned frequent appearances on prestigious stages around the world such as the Playboy Jazz Festival\, North Sea Jazz Festival\, Jazz in Marciac\, Umbria Jazz and \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJazz A Vienne\, but additionally\, Rodriguez was nominated for a Grammy® in the category of “Best Arrangement\, Instrumental or A Cappella\,” for the track “Guantanamera\,” from his album\, The Invasion Parade. Additionally\, during his first tour in China\, Rodriguez was asked to work with Tan Dun\, Siedah Garrett\, and Quincy Jones to compose the English version of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo theme song\, becoming the first non-Chinese artist to be bestowed this honor. He’s also been featured over the years by All Things Considered\, Downbeat\, The New York Times\, Los Angeles Times\, and Wall Street Journal among many others\, and performed for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert. \nRodriguez continues to share his music along with his impactful message of perseverance and cross culturalization on an international tour\, while sharing a variety of viral social media videos in which he plays well-known compositions in a Cuban timba style. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Alfredo Rodriguez – Piano\nHan Beyli – Bass\nArmando Lopez – Drums\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HIS MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Alfredo Rodriguez Trio | Live on KUVO!\n \n \n \n \n \n Alfredo Rodríguez Trio: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Alfredo Rodríguez

SUMMARY:Lucía
DESCRIPTION:About Lucía\n\n\n\n\nThree years ago\, 23-year-old singer Lucía was a finalist at the prestigious Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition – and the first Mexican artist to enter the contest. When it came time to select the song that she would perform in the final round\, she picked a standard that reflected her musical sensibility\, colored in equal parts by the beauty of jazz and the Latin American songbook. \n“We played ‘What a Difference a Day Makes\,’ which was popularized by Dinah Washington\, but in its initial incarnation was a bolero written in Spanish by María Grever\,” she says from her home in New York City. “We started it as a jazz ballad in English\, then switched to Spanish and added some zapateado dancing. My mother arrived with a contingent of fellow Mexicans to cheer me on. She told me that being able to sing in Spanish while dancing was what made me different from everyone else.” \nLucía won the competition\, and the fact that she did it with such a soulful\, multicultural rendition of a jazz standard also marked her arrival on the music scene. “What a Difference a Day Makes” is now the opening cut of the self-titled Lucía\, an exquisite debut album that showcases the luminous qualities of her voice\, and her superb technique and versatility. \nFrom her velvety reading of McCoy Tyner and Sammy Cahn’s “You Taught My Heart To Sing” and an achingly vulnerable cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Lacy” to a mournful “Alfonsina y el Mar” and a version of “Veracruz” that brims with Lucía’s Mexican pride\, the album finds the emerging singer surrounded by a cadre of jazz virtuosos: Venezuelan pianist Edward Simon\, American double-bassist Larry Grenadier\, Mexican drummer Antonio Sánchez\, and Puerto Rican saxophonist David Sánchez. The session was helmed by visionary producer Matt Pierson\, known for his work with legends such as Brad Mehldau\, Milton Nascimento and Samara Joy. \n\n\n\n\nHer innate talent was nurtured from a very young age. Born in Veracruz\, Lucía Gutiérrez Rebolloso began performing at age two\, together with her parents Laura Rebolloso and Ramón Gutiérrez and their acclaimed Son de Madera\, a son jarocho ensemble. She grew up surrounded by fandangos and the son jarocho community\, and is also the niece of Quetzal Flores\, founder of the Los Angeles-based Chicano rock band Quetzal. SUMMARY:Matt Wilson's Honey & Salt
DESCRIPTION:About Matt Wilson\nFew musicians embody the spontaneous energy of jazz like Matt Wilson. The New York-based drummer combines buoyant zeal\, idiosyncratic style\, infectious humor\, joyous swing and an indomitable spirit of surprise. Together\, with his universally recognized personal warmth\, these qualities have made Wilson one of the most in-demand players and educators on the modern jazz scene\, both beloved and respected by his peers\, elders and students. Not bad for a mischievous Midwestern boy from Knoxville\, Illinois. \nWhether anchoring an all-star group at the White House\, juggling tricky rhythmic swerves with his own quartets\, celebrating the holidays with his Christmas Tree-O\, exploring the poetry of Carl Sandburg\, sensitively supporting vocalists such as Dena DeRose\, presenting concerts at a neighborhood church or donning a superhero cape to inspire young musicians to embrace their individuality\, Wilson approaches music as a man on a mission: fostering a lively and passionate connection between music and people\, whether they be playing or listening to it. \nWilson has released thirteen albums as a leader. His latest recording\, Honey And Salt (Music Inspired By The Poetry Of Carl Sandburg)\, was recognized on over thirty worldwide “Best of 2017” lists\, including Top Ten in the National Public Radio Critics Poll\, JazzTimes\, Irish Times\, Boston Globe\, Jazziz and All About Jazz. The album received a coveted 5-star review (masterpiece) in DownBeat. On his previous album\, Beginning of a Memory (Palmetto)\, Wilson brought the musical and the personal together like never before\, uniting the members of all his ensembles into one aptly-named Big Happy Family to celebrate the life of his wife Felicia\, who lost her battle with leukemia in June 2014. This profound\, yet playful\, release also received a 5-star review in DownBeat and was selected as one of the top releases of 2016 by numerous publications\, including DownBeat\, JazzTimes and slate.com. It also cracked the Top Ten of the NPR Critics Poll. Wilson has made thirteen recordings as a leader for Palmetto Records since 1996\, including acclaimed releases by the Matt Wilson Quartet\, Arts & Crafts and the Christmas Tree-O. \nHe’s also co-led another dozen albums\, including duo outings with Lee Konitz and Steve Beresford\, Sifter (a trio with Mary Halvorson and Kirk Knuffke)\, MOB Trio and the acclaimed Trio M with his alliterative partner\, Myra Melford\, and Mark Dresser. And that’s only a drop in the proverbial bucket (and Matt has almost surely played a bucket or two\, proverbial and otherwise\, over the course of his career) in the context of an impressive discography that finds his distinctive style on more than 400 albums. That dizzying list includes releases by such greats as Dewey Redman\, Paul Bley\, Charlie Haden\, Lee Konitz\, Bob Stewart\, Cecil McBee\, Denny Zeitlin\, Ron Miles\, Jeff Lederer\, Marty Ehrlich\, Ted Nash\, Ray Anderson\, Don Friedman\, Jane Ira Bloom and Dena DeRose\, among many others. \nWilson has enjoyed performing for countless audiences across the country and around the world. One of his biggest honors came when he was invited to perform at a White House State Dinner hosted by President Obama in 2011\, where he played alongside a Who’s Who of jazz\, including Herbie Hancock\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Dianne Reeves\, Chris Botti\, Randy Brecker\, Antonio Hart and James Genus. Add those names to an ever-growing list of legends with whom Wilson has performed\, including Andrew Hill\, Bobby Hutcherson\, Geri Allen\, Elvis Costello\, Candido Camero\, Freddie Redd\, Butch Warren\, Cedar Walton\, Kenny Barron\, Christian McBride\, John Zorn\, Benny Golson\, Buster Williams\, Marshall Allen\, Nels Cline\, Rufus Reid\, Jason Moran\, Bill Henderson\, Frank Wess\, Anat Cohen\, Steve Nelson\, George Cables\, Mulgrew Miller\, Chris Potter\, Regina Carter\, Benny Green\, John Clayton\, Bobby Watson\, Eddie Gomez\, Wynton Marsalis\, Paquito D’Rivera\, George Mraz\, Michael Brecker\, Pat Metheny\, Joe Lovano\, John Scofield\, Bill Frisell\, Hubert Laws and Hank Jones. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nMatt Wilson – Drums\nKirk Knuffke – Cornet\nJeff Lederer – Reeds\nMartin Wind – Bass \nDawn Clement – Piano & Vocals\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HIS MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 13 Paper 1 and 2 Honey and Salt music by Matt Wilson Poem by Carl Sandburg\n\n \n \n \n \n \n 08 CHOOSE Honey and Salt music by Matt Wilson Poem by Carl Sandburg\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Matt Wilson Honey & Salt

SUMMARY:Cassandra Kubinski with Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls
DESCRIPTION:Cassandra Kubinski\nMulti Billboard Heatseekers charting singer/songwriter Cassandra Kubinski has performed her piano-driven stories of ambition\, connection\, loss\, and love from living rooms to Barclays Center\, from NYC to LA to Thailand to Jamaica and beyond. She’s shared stages with the Goo Goo Dolls\, 10\,000 Maniacs\, Anna Nalick\, Dickie Betts\, and more. \nYou’ve heard Cassandra’s songs on TV\, from Lifetime to ESPN to ABC\, including 13 songs on hit show Dance Moms. She has collaborated on songs with luminaries like the Goo Goo Dolls\, Chris Botti\, 10\,000 Maniacs\, DJ Taz Rashid\, and even her personal music hero\, Billy Joel. \nHer songs have helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for important causes\, such as “Not So Different” for Autism (performed for the NY Islanders at Barclays Center) and “You Get Me” for pet rescue (performed at Broadway’s iconic 54 Below).  \nA fierce advocate for women in entertainment\, she was the composer and bandleader of Emmy-winning new media TV Show “The Never Settle Show” hosted by Mario Armstrong; served on the board of Women in Music for 8+ years; and serves as the youngest and only female artist on the Caffe Lena board in Saratoga Springs\, NY. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls\nBorn in New Jersey to immigrant parents\, Muller began playing piano as a teenager\, picking up regular gigs as an accompanist while excelling enough at his academic studies to earn acceptance to Princeton University. A math whiz with a preternatural gift for numbers\, he found himself fascinated with the connections between technology and finance\, and within a decade of graduating\, he’d helped revolutionize the field of quantitative trading\, which in turn transformed Wall Street as we know it. \n“Once I accomplished everything that I’d set out to do in the business world\, I realized that I hadn’t nurtured the artistic side of my life\,” Muller explains. “There was a six-year period where my focus was so intense that I hardly touched my piano. My work was a single-minded obsession.”  \nFeeling spiritually drained\, Muller began drifting away from his work for a period of equally intense focus on his music: busking in the subways\, playing small clubs and cafes\, and writing his own songs for the first time. After releasing a pair of early albums\, he married\, moved to California\, and became a father. While he eventually returned to the business he’d founded\, he remained as dedicated as ever to his craft. In 2014\, he recorded his third album\, Two Truths and a Lie\, which introduced him to Avatar Studios (a New York landmark previously known as The Power Station\, where icons like Bruce Springsteen\, Paul Simon\, David Bowie\, and Bob Dylan had recorded). Upon learning the studio was under threat of being sold and redeveloped as condos\, Muller decided to use his resources in partnership with the City of New York and the Berklee College of Music to save\, renovate\, and re-launch the space as a world-class recording and educational facility. He would go on to record his next two albums—2019’s Dissolve and 2022’s Spaces—there\, launching a whole new chapter of his career that would find him sharing bills with artists like Joan Osborne\, Jimmy Webb\, Livingston Taylor\, and Paul Thorn in addition to landing festival slots everywhere from Telluride to Montreux. \nThese days\, Muller is more content than ever\, embracing AND over OR as he splits his time between the East and West Coasts\, carving his own unique and inspiring path through the pair of vastly different\, yet ultimately complementary worlds he’s created for himself.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n				 “Cassandra Kubinski is very similar to the singer/songwriters of the late 70’s…proves that the genre (singer/songwriter) can still be transcendent.” – Billy Joel \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “I was immediately drawn to the passion Pete brings to every performance\,” says Ross-Spang\, who encouraged Muller to embrace a looser\, grittier approach in the studio built around live takes and free-flowing improvisation without the rigid constraints of a click track. “Joy truly abounds in his music\, and working with Pete reinforced those same feelings in me. I consider myself very lucky to have helped capture that feeling on his new record.” \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THEIR MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n BURN IT DOWN (Official Music Video)\n \n \n \n \n \n Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls | “If I Had A Boat” \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Cassandra Kubinski\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls

SUMMARY:The Saline Fiddler's Philharmonic
DESCRIPTION:Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic\nAmerica’s premier youth fiddling show band from Saline\, Michigan\, astounds audiences every time the group takes the stage. The musicians\, all from Saline High School\, present an energetic and polished show that features a diverse range of music from American folk\, fiddle\, bluegrass\, jazz\, western swing\, and Celtic traditions.  Spirited vocals and Appalachian step dancing combine with the instrumentals to create an unforgettable live performance. \nSaline Fiddlers Philharmonic began in 1994 with a simple idea: introduce an alternative style of music education to public school students to maintain and expand their interest in music performance.  Since then\, the group has definitely set the standard for extracurricular music programs in the United States. It has grown into a model of instruction and motivation that is being emulated across the nation. \nThe widely acclaimed Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic’s history includes more than 1\,500 performances in the majority of the states in our nation.  The group has been honored to perform three times at the White House and twice on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center\, as well as at a State of Michigan’s Presidential Inaugural Ball.  Annual summer tours have spanned the United States from the east coast to the west coast\, down south to up north\, and have also included performances in Canada and tours in Europe\, including visits to Saline’s sister cities of Brecon\, Wales and Lindenberg\, Germany.  Each year the group performs 50-60 times\, generally donating a third of their annual schedule to community service events. \nSaline Fiddlers Philharmonic has shared the stage with many top artists as well as other student groups. Especially gratifying is the number of student fiddle organizations which have been started around the country because of inspiration from the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “The Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic were outstanding. SUMMARY:Daniel Kelly Group: Celebrating Paul Pines
DESCRIPTION:About Daniel Kelly / The Daniel Kelly Group\nPianist & composer Daniel Kelly first performed at Jazz at the Lake in 2004 with the Harvie S band. He returned over the years with his Emerge Trio\, the WORKS Trio with Joe Lovano\, and his multimedia collaboration with The Seeing with Photography Collective\, Blind Visionaries\, inaugurating the first Friday evening Jazz at the Lake performance. \nAn artist who explores the meeting place of music with literature\, visual art and journalism with his various projects\, Daniel has created several works that incorporate poetry\, including All the World’s a Song: Shakespeare in Jazz\, which interprets Shakespeare’s words as lyrics to jazz songs. \nIn honor of the 40th anniversary of the festival\, Daniel uses the poetry of Paul Pines as inspiration for the music for this year’s performance. Paul\, who founded the Lake George Jazz Weekend along with John Strong in 1984\, was a dear friend to Daniel. He previously collaborated with Paul in his final months in 2018\, composing settings for poems from his book Gathering Sparks in a 45-minute suite scored for a jazz septet titled Museum of the Infinite. This year\, Daniel will explore Paul’s poetry throughout his writing career\, anthologized in the collection A Furnace in the Shadows: Selected Poems. \nKelly’s music has been declared “powerfully moving” by Time Out New York. He has performed with Grammy-award winners Joe Lovano & Nicole Zuraitis\, hip-hop star Lauryn Hill\, cutting-edge modern classical The Bang on a Can All-Stars and a long list of jazz musicians such as NEA Jazz Masters Dave Liebman & Sheila Jordan\, Don Byron\, Donny McCaslin\, Bobby Sanabria and many others. \nRakonto\, Kelly’s series of interview-based concerts\, have been commissioned by 13 performing art centers across the US. Each of these concert-length works have transformed stories of everyday people – farmers\, teachers\, students\, seniors\, immigrants and hurricane survivors – into dramatic and compelling music that celebrates our shared human experience. \nDaniel has been honored to continue Paul’s role as Curator of Jazz at the Lake for the past five years. \n“I remain convinced that Daniel Kelly is one of the most stunningly original talents both as an improviser and a leader that I have known in a long career of promoting this art form. His musical ideas spring naturally from a visionary imagination.” — Paul Pines\, Curator\, Lake George Jazz Weekend \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Daniel Kelly – pianoJesse Lewis – guitarIke Sturm – bassJared Schonig – drumsDavid Gonzalez – spoken word\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HIS MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n All the World’s a Stage; Shakespeare in Jazz\n \n \n \n \n \n Entrance to the Underworld – poetry by Paul Pines\, music composed by Daniel Kelly\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Daniel Kelly\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 4 DAYS • 17 SHOWS • 4 SPECIAL EVENTSCELEBRATING 40 YEARS!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THURSDAY 9/12 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 10AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 7:30PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 5PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 9AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 8PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 5PM

SUMMARY:Ulysses Owens Jr. & Generation Y
DESCRIPTION:About Ulysses Owens Jr. \nThree time Grammy™ Award-Winning Drummer Ulysses Owens Jr.\, known for being a drummer who (The New York Times) has said “take[s] a back seat to no one\,” and “a musician who balances excitement gracefully and shines with innovation.” Performer\, producer and educator Ulysses Owens Jr. goes the limit in the jazz world and beyond; claiming eight successful albums of his own. \nOwens has also gained special attention for his performances on GRAMMY Award-winning albums by Kurt Elling and The Christian McBride Big Band . In addition to five GRAMMY Award Nominated albums with Joey Alexander\, Christian McBride Trio\, John Beasley’s Monk’estra\, and Gregory Porter. Both Jazziz and Rolling Stone Magazines picked his album “Songs of Freedom\,” as a Top Ten Album for 2019 and in 2021; his most recent Big Band release\, “Soul Conversations\,” was voted the top album in May 2021 by JazzIz Magazine. “Soul Conversations\,” received rave reviews and was added to multiple playlists on Apple Music\, Spotify\, and Sirius XM; and now the band is touring nationally. The Ulysses Owens Jr. Big Band has also been voted “Rising Star Big Band ” of 2022 by Downbeat Magazine. His upcoming eighth album release A New Beat\, will feature his new “Generation Y” Band on the Cellar Jazz record label. The album was produced by Jeremy Pelt and recorded at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studios\, in New Jersey. \nAbout Generation Y\nGeneration Y is a band concept that was conceived back in 2019 with the goal promoting the next generation of dynamic talent from the top music conservatories in NYC and beyond. Led by Ulysses Owens Jr. who is a Multi Grammy Award-winning Drummer\, Producer\, Educator\, Author and Cultural Entrepreneur. \nServing at The Juilliard School in the role of Small Ensemble Director within the Jazz Department for the last 8 years\, has given Ulysses a front row seat to this Generation’s top talent. Ulysses Owens Jr.\, has been the driving force behind such great artists as Nicholas Payton\, Christian McBride\, Wynton Marsalis\, Mulgrew Miller\, Joey Alexander and many others. Through his relationship with these great bandleaders he learned of the legacy of Art Blakey and Betty Carter\, both of whom were renowned for their own bands (which became educational institutions) and launched the careers of many of today’s paradigm-shifting musicians on the jazz scene. Generation Y is an updated model of the Jazz Messengers\, and many of these band members also perform in Ulysses’ big band. \nThe band just recorded their debut album “A New Beat” that will be released on the Cellar Live Record label\, in January 2024. The material on this album is a culmination of repertoire from Ulysses’ influences and mentors like Mulgrew Miller\, Roy Hargrove\, George Cables\, and of course the great Art Blakey. This album also features a few original compositions from Benny Benack\, Anthony Hervey\, and the very talented Luther Allison who is an emerging talent performing with Grammy Award-winning vocalist\, Samara Joy as her pianist. The album also features a classic from Louis Armstrong titled Heart Full of Rhythm featuring Milton Suggs\, which learned during his time as the Louis Armstrong Museum ‘“Armstrong Now Artist in Residence.” This album is a culmination of repertoire that has been performed by this band around the world over the last 4 years and to add another level of nostalgia; it was recorded at the Legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studios in Englewood\, NJ. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ulysses Owens Jr. – Drums\nAnthony Hervey – Trumpet\nErena Terakubo – Alto Saxophone\nTyler Bullock – Piano\nGuillermo Lopez – Bass\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n One By One – Ulysses Owens Jr and Generation Y\n \n \n \n \n \n I’m Not So Sure – Ulysses Owens Jr & Generation Y\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Ulysses Owens Jr.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 4 DAYS • 17 SHOWS • 4 SPECIAL EVENTSCELEBRATING 40 YEARS!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THURSDAY 9/12 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 10AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 6PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 1PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FRIDAY 9/13 @ 7:30PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 5PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 3PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 9AM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SATURDAY 9/14 @ 8PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n SUNDAY 9/15 @ 5PM

SUMMARY:Walter Parks and the Unlawful Assembly
DESCRIPTION:About Walter Parks & the Unlawful Assembly\nAs a full 6 piece band or a trio\, The Unlawful Assembly reimagines and tributes historic spirituals and hymns which universally inspire\, empower and unite. Leader/guitarist/singer Walter Parks\, longtime sideman to Woodstock legend Richie Havens\, is joined by featured artists drummer/producer Steven Williams\, Ada Dyer on vocals who’s currently touring worldwide with Bruce Springsteen and/or Andrae Murchison on trombone. \nIn one live-concert experience The Unlawful Assembly entertains and informs while successfully melding roots music of divergent origins. The soundtrack to American black history – old-school spirituals\, gospel\, blues\, and prison work chants intertwine with swamp hollers\, shaped-note hymns and Appalachian reels of white homesteader origin. \nParks’ native northeast Florida swampy feel borrows from southern rock\, jazz\, early 70’s soul and few gospel interpretations that rest joyfully upon a foundation of modern electronic loops. \nReimagined covers and traditionals include: “Wade In The Water”\, “Follow The Drinking Gourd”\, “Down By The Riverside”\, “Steal Away”\, “Old Blind Barnabas”\, “Amazing Grace”\, “Higher Ground” and “Early In The Mornin’”. Walter contributes “Georgia Rice” and a co-write with Stan Lynch of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers on “Shoulder It”. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THEIR MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Down By the Riverside at Jersey City Jazz Festival\n \n \n \n \n \n The Unlawful Assembly • Bridge Over Troubled Water • Ada Dyer Vocalist\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about Walter Parks & the Unlawful Assembly

SUMMARY:Pine Leaf Boys
DESCRIPTION:About the Pine Leaf Boys\nLouisiana’s finest\, four-time Grammy-Nominated\, world-renown Pine Leaf Boys have made a name for presenting their own inimitable brand of Louisiana music with youthful exuberance. Hailing from southwest Louisiana\, the Pine Leaf Boys\, known for their wild shows and thoughtful arrangements\, have breathed new life into Louisiana music\, reviving ancient songs and bringing them to the bandstand. Being described in the New York Times as\, “… the link that connects the young and the old generations\,” and\, “the best new\, energetic\, and fun Cajun band in a very long time\,” the Pine Leaf Boys play the old fashion dance hall standards while making a priority to bring many of the more obscure songs of past masters into their repertoire and play them with gusto.  \nThe Pine Leaf Boys have been invited on six occasions by the U.S. State Department to tour the world and present true music to Saudi Arabia\, UAE\, and Jerusalem in 2009 and again to Latvia\, Denmark\, and Slovenia is 2010 and a third time to the “Stan” countries in 2012 (Uzbek\, Tajik\, and Kyrgz). The variety and energy they release evolves through their shows\, bringing multi-faceted angles to Cajun\, Creole\, and Zydeco. Their mission is to present the beautiful\, powerful music of their ancestors and present the real Cajun music to the world and prove that it is still thriving and full of life. The Pine Leaf Boys have preserved the traditional Cajun sound\, while allowing it to breathe and stretch with those who play it.  Click here to see a list of the last 11 years of touring around the 23 countries and 47 states. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n New York Times described the boys’ music as “the link that connects the young and the old generations\,” and Rolling Stone Magazine quoted\, “the best new\, energetic\, and fun Cajun band in a very long time.” \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n THEIR MUSIC\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Pine Leaf Boys at The Barn at Lakeview\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn More about the Pine Leaf Boys
