EXHIBITION & INSTALLATION MANAGER
(CONTRACT)

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Lake George Arts Project Exhibition & Installation Manager is an important part of the LGAP team and is responsible for working with artists to create an exhibition content package and for the preparation, installation, and deinstallation of exhibitions and/or public art projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring artwork is handled, installed, and presented safely, professionally, and in alignment with the organization’s artistic standards. The ideal candidate is hands-on, dependable, and comfortable working with a wide range of media in both indoor gallery settings and outdoor/public environments.

ABOUT THE POSITION
This is an independent contractor position, and will be a combination of on-site (during installation, deinstallation, and required on-site meetings) and remote work.

COMPENSATION
$25 per hour; Hours vary based on exhibition schedule. Hours typically range from 20-30 hours per exhibition, and scope of work includes artist communication, exhibition content package creation (5 images for use in promotion, artist statement, short exhibition description, and price list) gallery prep, installation, deinstallation. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
• Proven experience in the coordination, preparation and installation of art exhibitions
• Strong written and spoken communication skills to maintain positive relationships with artists, and coordinate exhibition package content with LGAP staff
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in order to schedule and coordinate installation / deinstallation timelines, exhibition package deadlines, etc…

Education, Certification, and Skills
• At least 3 to 5 years of experience in curation / installation for a museum or gallery
• Comfort using hand and power tools (e.g., drills, levels, saws, ladders)
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
• Strong attention to detail and respect for artwork and artist intent
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Courthouse Gallery
The mission of our Courthouse Gallery is to provide exhibition opportunities to emerging and professional artists, with preference given to work created within the last 2 years, and to experimental or non-traditional work. We provide artists with a quality space where they can present a solid body of work in a solo or small group show. The gallery has historically also presented literary, musical, and visual art workshops, classes, presentations, readings, meetings, and other events.

Exhibition Preparation, Maintenance, Installation, & Deinstallation
• Prepare Courthouse Gallery prior to installations, including patching and repairing walls and painting to support the optimal presentation of artwork
• Coordinate artwork drop off, installation, deinstallation, and artwork pick up with artists
• Work with artists, or independently, to pack, unpack, label, and condition-check artwork before and after exhibitions, documenting any damage or concerns and ensuring proper storage or return to artists
• Work with selected artists on exhibition layout and spatial planning, including accurate placement, alignment, leveling, and secure mounting of artwork in accordance with curatorial plans and best practices
• Work with artists to install artwork and adjust gallery lighting, pedestals, and other displays as needed
• Maintain tools, hardware, and installation supplies
• Assist with basic gallery upkeep to ensure a clean, professional exhibition environment
• Perform routine gallery upkeep during exhibitions, including minor repairs, adjustments, and touch-ups as needed to maintain a clean, professional exhibition environment
• Follow safe art-handling practices and adhere to organizational standards to protect artwork, facilities, and visitors at all times

Exhibition Content Coordination & Documentation
• Work with Arts Project staff on the Annual Call for Art
• Coordinate with exhibiting artists to collect all required exhibition materials, including high-resolution images, price lists, artwork details, artist statements, and exhibition descriptions
• Ensure all exhibition content is complete, accurate, and submitted on schedule to support marketing, press, and development needs
• Serve as a point of contact for artists regarding exhibition-related information and deadlines
• Organize and deliver exhibition content packages to Arts Project staff for use in press releases, website updates, social media, signage, and promotional materials.
• Assist with basic documentation of exhibitions, including photographing installed work or coordinating photography as needed
• Maintain organized digital files and records related to exhibitions, ensuring materials are easily accessible
• Collaborate with Arts Project staff to confirm exhibition details such as titles, dates, and installation notes prior to public release

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR (30 HOURS)

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Lake George Arts Project (LGAP) seeks an organized and creative Community Engagement Coordinator to assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of the organization’s public-facing programs. This role is central to LGAP’s mission of supporting artists and expanding access to high-quality arts experiences for residents and visitors of the Lake George region. The Community Engagement Coordinator assists with a diverse portfolio of programs and works closely with artists, LGAP staff, the LGAP Board of Directors, partner organizations and businesses, and volunteers to ensure programs are engaging, accessible, and well-executed.

COMPENSATION
$24.00 per hour (30-hours per week) or $37,500 annually, non-exempt, with generous leave and flexible scheduling. This role will require approx. 15 hours per week in office, and offers hybrid flexibility based on program schedules and organizational needs.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
• Experience coordinating programs, events, or community initiatives; arts or nonprofit experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Be comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
• Experience working with artists, performers, and/or instructors
• Proficiency with WordPress, major social media platforms (including Facebook and Instagram), and Apple/macOS systems
• Knowledge of the Lake George region

Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an arts-related field or equivalent professional experience

RESPONSIBILITIES

Outreach
• Support the planning and implementation of LGAP’s new and upcoming community programs and initiatives
• Exhibition-Related Events: Assist with artist talks, gallery tours, and other interactive programs designed to build awareness and improve accessibility
• Community & Partner Engagement: Serve as a liaison between LGAP and community partners to promote LGAP programs, increase participation, and strengthen relationships with the Lake George community
• Assist staff with outreach to community partners, donors, and sponsors to support visibility and engagement for LGAP programs
• Audience Development & Accessibility: Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to expand reach, foster inclusivity, and ensure that all programs are accessible and responsive to the needs of diverse audiences.
• Special Event Support: Provide logistical and on-site support for outreach programs, to ensure smooth operations, positive participant experiences, and high-quality community engagement

Exhibitions
Assist with the Calls for Art / Artists
Manage artist contracts, exhibition schedules, and communication with participating artists to ensure deadlines and requirements are clear
Support gallery exhibitions by preparing materials and documentation for installation, including wall labels, price lists, and signage
• Collaborate with the Exhibitions & Installation Manager to schedule and facilitate installation and deinstallation of Courthouse Gallery Exhibitions
• Coordinate gallery receptions, artist talks, and/or exhibition-related special events
• Assist with tracking and processing artwork sales
• Assist artists (if needed) with install and/or deinstall of exhibitions

Volunteer Coordination
• Assist with recruiting, scheduling, training, and managing volunteers to support LGAP’s public programs, gallery hours, and special events
• Coordinate volunteer assignments, ensuring coverage aligns with program needs
• Support volunteer engagement and retention by providing guidance, resources, and recognition for contributions

Membership
• Manage LGAP’s annual membership program, including renewals, new member outreach, and record-keeping
• Coordinate and execute the annual membership drive, including timelines, materials, and promotional outreach
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date member records in LGAP’s database and ensure acknowledgment and welcome materials are sent promptly
• Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement strategies to grow and retain LGAP’s membership base
• Support member engagement through communications, events, and special benefits tied to exhibitions and programs

Publicity, Marketing & Support
• Produce content for, and update website sections with, current program and exhibition information.
• Contribute to the creation and distribution of press releases, email updates, social media posts, and printed materials (postcards, posters, and invitations) for exhibitions and public  programs
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to ensure all program communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with the organization’s mission and branding.

Responsibilities will shift seasonally based on program schedules, with primary focus on outreach and public programs.

Other Duties as Required
Include, but are not limited to, assist with the general day-to-day operations of a public exhibition space and work with Executive Director on tasks related to other major programs and fundraising events.  Staff are required to attend and assist with 4 special events (on evenings and weekends) including Bands and Beans (March) Summer Cruise (June), Jazz at the Lake (September) and our Annual Meeting (December).
