Mending the Path
Oils and Drawings by Seth Butler
Butler specializes in sifting landscape imagery through his imagination, resulting in boldly colored scenes of undulating lines and patterns. Photographs taken during walks in rural upstate New York serve as the foundation for the manipulation of form and color found in his work. He states that as he “…dips toes into fantasy realms, reality is never a safety net, but just the bottom of the creative swimming pool. I take the viewer and myself floating to the surface, as I seek not only to show the surface beauty of the natural world, but also its timeless and bold nature. To stop, breathe, and reflect on the mystery of nature, is to reinvigorate our intent, and reflect personal restoration.”
In addition to the oils, this exhibition features many of the artist’s new drawings. These pieces roam deeper into fantasy worlds filled with archetypes and mysterious narratives.
