Jazz Around Town: Scott Hopkins Trio @ Gaslight

The Scott Hopkins Jazz Trio features stalwart jazzers Lou Smaldone on bass and Brian Melick on drums with Hopkins on electric banjo. Repertoire of the trio includes a combination of standards and contemporary tunes with flares of bluegrass and folk influences from Hopkins and the Latin grooves and instruments of Melick. Everything is held together by the rock-solid but flexible bass playing of Smaldone creating a unique ensemble sound and approach. Joining the trio for this performance will be pianist extraordinaire Erik Kihss from New York City!

“Really enjoyed this place, for many reasons. First, the menu is great, there’s a wide array of dishes available. I opted for the wood fired pizza and it was really delicious, I was very pleased with our choices. Second, the staff here is wonderful. I dined at the bar and had a chance to talk to several of the staff; they were all friendly and knowledgable- I really appreciated this. Third, the owner came over and chatted with me and asked me how my meal was, that’s uncommon and it’s a mark of a good establishment.
