Lake George Art & Canoe Trail

The Lake George Art & Canoe Trail

In a collaboration between the Town, the Village, and Lake George Arts Project, 18 uniquely designed and painted canoes and paddles, as well as 3 new murals will be sited and displayed throughout the village. This project will showcase the talents of regional artists while beautifying the landscape, enhancing the aesthetics of the Village, extending public art to new areas and unexpected places, and introducing art to the community in a captivating and innovative way.

A map featuring each installation will be designed, printed and available throughout the town and village. Signage with QR codes (pointing to the project section of the LGAP website) will include the artist’s name, the title of the work, and narrative text about the work, which would include any historical references and/or the artist’s inspiration.

All of the information will also be available on the LGAP website which will feature the wayfinding map, images of each work and expand upon the information about the artists and their work.

As an artist, can I apply to paint a canoe and a mural?

Yes!

I’m not available to paint a canoe during the scheduled timeframe. Can I still apply?

To ensure the project is completed on time, we have scheduled a 3- week window (May 4 – May 20, 2026) for painting all of the canoes and paddles. All selected artists must complete their paddles and canoes in that timeframe. Paddles may be brought to your studio to complete, but the canoes will be installed on their bases and can not be moved.

If I’m selected, can I change my design?

The panel will select designs they feel are best suited to the project. You are welcome to make slight adjustments to color, layout, or even the composition as needed, but the general design should stay the same. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Tanya.

Are groups allowed to apply?

YES – artist collectives, school-based, civic groups, etc… are all invited to apply. Artists can also apply as a partnership (two artists). Please fill out the application using the primary contact’s name and information.
